For those worrying about door dings...here is my answer.

I found unpainted bodyside molding, custom cut it for my doors and fenders, and had a friend paint them.

They look factory to me.
Do you like them?

If the goal was to get some protection from door dings while looking classy and as "factory" as possible, I think you succeeded! I prefer the car without those lines, but I do miss them...I don't have to worry about my 3rd gen nearly as much since it has them. This looks really good for an aftermarket job.

I don't understand why. Door dings are very ugly and costly to repair. Unless you have safe parking everywhere you go, you are bound to get some jerk to park next to you and ding the body line.

I have side protection on 75% of it now.

My '99 Firebird was a DD for 10 years, and only has one door ding, thanks I'm sure to the side molding. I don't think it would look good on my VR Camaro unless it was color matched. Looks great on your car!

I googled body side molding and found this:

http://www.customautotrim.com/produc...dy_by_type.htm

They have a category called "Camaro Style". That is the one I bought.
It is exactly like the body moldings on my 02 monte carlo SS.

Just buy the unpainted ones and bring your paint code to the body shop.
It was very easy.

I like it. I considered doing that also because I had a 75 Camaro and back then just about all 70's Camaro's had the side molding like that. I was telling my wife how the crease that runs midway along the door and fender reminded me of the 70's Camaro’s and how that old school body side molding might look good and help me relax about opening my door even in my own garage.

Thanks for doing that and posting the pic's I will have to consider this myself some more. It also seems so far nobody is saying it’s ugly so that is promising.

Looks pretty good, you followed the natural body line. Chances are someone will get you in the rear quarter. Paint-less dent removal is inexpensive and gets you back at least 90% the way to perfect.
