ss "constriction" or "restriction"

i placed my order 1st week of june for a 2ss imperial blue, rs, i was 25th on the dealer list overall. got a call on 8-28 saying my #'s up ready to order, however can only order 6 cyl not 8 cyl. i stayed w/ the ss and the dealer has no idea when he will be able to order it. i'm still at top of list, but he has past me up to order 6cyl's that were behind me. does anyone have an idea when GM will allow the ordering of the ss?

I have yet not been able to order a SS yet. I placed three orders on Friday and two of them were SS.

Is there any way for other dealers to verify this? I'm still holding at 1100 and would like to prepare myself for getting skipped for V6 orders.

Just checked with my General Sales Manager. He said that there was a constraint on the 6 speeds for a while, but there isn't one now. If your dealer gives you to much trouble, let me know. I am south of you and have some allocations for this next couple weeks.

Actually GSM just double checked. There is a constraint, it just so happens that GM has been giving us 2 SS allocations a week so really haven't noticed it. Iheartcamaro, your Camaro's already order so isn't affected nor your brothers so dont worry.

SS is still available to order, the quanties are just "constrained" or limited nationally probably due to a parts supply issue. My orders were constrained to 2 SS last week and it fit my bill perfectly as I had 2SS and 1LT to order. If you are the next in line the delay should not have too great an impact. We all find out our constraints weekly so the future is hard to predict but you should know yeah! or neigh on Thursday.

Thanks a bunch for checking. I just spoke to my salesman and he said orders in 1100 should not be affected too much but did admit to the constraint. Hopefully mine will go in soon. It is a 6speed manual, though.

If your order is at 1100 you do need to worry about any current and future constraints as you will be subject to them. Basically being at 1100 it is as if your order is just waiting - once the allocation comes up and your dealer can submit your status will change to 2000 and at that point you will be in the process. At 3000 - that is about the time you can stop worrying.

It WILL be affected at 1100 - you haven't been pulled for production. Stick, auto - it doesn't matter SS's are at 55% of what they were for future build weeks, expected to last greater than 4 weeks - and possibly to the end of the 2010 model year.. * subject to change. (based on a supplier issue/shortage)

Ordered 2SS/RS 6 speed Yellow w/Rally Stripes and sunroof. I'll be looking for yours, too! Based on the post by CamaroScotty it doesn't look good though. By the time mine goes through I might as well order the convertible!! Guess I just waited to long for prices to go down.

Sounds like you guys believe that they are going to quit making the V8 due to constraints. That is not true. They are just cutting back on how many they are making. The V8's will still be available just not over-abundantly. When GM first started the pre-order process last year, they were expecting something like 65% to be V-6's. Turns out that over 85% of the ones ordered were V-8's.

Isn't there some kind of tax that GM has to pay the government for producing V8s like the one in the Camaro? I bet there is some kinda of conspiracy that the tax is considerably less with more fuel efficient engines like the V6 and so GM wants to sell more V6s to save money. I have a hard time believing in supplier problems. This year has been so bad for the auto sector I find it hard to believe some parts plants can find the people or current employees won't work some overtime.

Maybe you're referring to the gas guzzler tax. I think they got around that with the 1st to 4th skip shifting in the cars. Not sure...

It is being stated by GM as a supplier constaint - this meaning that one or many of the parts required to build the SS cars is not available for full production due to a supplier shortage and or issue.

Here's my guess...the initial supply/stockpile of V8 engines (or a critical sub-part) that was projected to carry production through the first year has already been depleted. Now they can only build as many cars as the supplier can build engines in a one-for-one real time limit.

For example, let's say they had stockpiled 15,000 engines before production and are building engines at a rate of 150 a day. If production demand is 300 a day for new cars, they can still keep up as long as the stockpile holds out. Once that initial 15,000 is depleted, though, they are forced to drop down to only building 150 cars per day with the V8.

Again...this is just my guess.

Before the constraint came out, my original dealer told me I might get my v6 sooner because they were running out of v8 engines. Not sure, where he got his info, but it supports this theory.

If gas were $5 a gallon, the V6 would be the leader for sure, and what led them to their initial sales projections. Its a great car and practical. But alot of middle aged crazies like me would have nothing other than the fire breather--the V8, while we can STILL get them and not legislated out of existance

GM wants the mix of V8 to V6 to be about 70% or so V6s. The early orders were built as ordered and they ran high at about 85 %. Don't look for a flood of V8s coming up whether ordered or not. They need a higher mix of V6 models to meet fuel mpg requirements. Now and in the future.

last week 1305 SS were able to be ordered nationally, this week only 783 available, if a dealer had an allocation.

The guy that orders the cars should know this. Good luck

Those numbers are exactly what I saw as well...and one of those from this week is MINE! My SS order went in today. I've been at 1100 since 6/24.
