Do not seal it up. It does a couple of things.

First it allows you to close your doors and windows and trunk without getting a huge pressure build up.

Secondly it helps keep the moisture out of the trunk.

Almost every car has one, its a cabin air vent.

A lot if not all newer cars have vents. It lets the air out from closing the doors and running the vent fan. My 4Runner goes from the left side of the cargo area and exits behind the bumper. S10 has one in the center of the back of the cab. I wouldn't cover them or you'll build pressure in the cabin.

Yep they Pressure release vents. My friend matted up his in his ram 1500 and it you had to slam the doors to close them. When the AC vents was turned on your ears would pop. And when exiting the vehicle when the door handles were pulled the doors would literally pop open from the AC forcing in air pressure. That was untill he cut the holes in the Matting to let the pressure out

I know this is an old thread.

Did you find a solution to the stop the vents from rattling?

Going to get a seriously dusty trunk if you do that. I'd find the rattle and insulate it with a bit of foam.

Just cover them up. Talking with a few car engineers, they design and build stuff into cars all the time to waste their time, and the company's money.
