Cadillac CTS-V eats up nordschleife in under 8 minutes!

Quote:
PRESS RELEASE:
2009 CTS-VBlisters Nurburgring
Breaks 8-minute barrier - potentially the fastest documented lap time for a production sedan

In testing today at Germany's Nurburgring, Cadillac's upcoming new 2009 CTS-Vcompleted a lap of the legendary Nordschleife in 7:59.32. This blistering time appears to be the fastest ever publicly documented for a production sedan.

Cadillac is nearing the completion of testing for the highly anticipated CTS-V, the limited-edition high-performance model based on the award-winning CTS sport sedan. John Heinricy, GM Performance Division executive and an acclaimed racing driver, piloted the CTS-V through its sub-8 minute lap. The car itself had no performance modifications outside of those planned for consumer production, which is scheduled to begin this fall.

Estimated at 550-hp, the CTS-V is at the moment going through the final stages of intensive testing and development. One of the realistic objectives of the Cadillac team is to make the CTS-V the world's fastest production sedan, as a part of the overall goal to make the V-Series Cadillac's ultimate expression of performance and technology. More updates will be released in the coming weeks as testing is finalized, including the car's certified SAE power ratings, acceleration specifications and U.S.-market pricing.

Video documentation of the car's breakthrough Nordschleife performance will be posted online in the coming days at http://cadillac.gmblogs.com
The eight-minute mark has long been recognized as a major Nurburgring milestone, reserved for race cars and the fastest exotic sports cars. While there's no single official repository for Nurburgring data from private test sessions, numerous reputable websites and publications report lap times from race teams, automakers and independent sources.

The new 2009 CTS-V includes a suite of advanced performance technologies, including a new version of Cadillac's acclaimed Magnetic Ride Control suspension and the LSA 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 engine. For the first time, CTS-V will include the choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions, with the new automatic sporting steering wheel-mounted shift buttons.

Oddly enough, that performance doesn't excite me even as much as the looks. In my opinion, one of the sexiest cars out there. That kind of performance is just icing on the cake. If I were a rich man...

That

is

SICK.

Let's pray that LSA finds its way into a future Camaro or G8 engine bay.

It's a totally different car but this backs the ZR1 in the debate of if it can beat the GT-R. Just look what GM can do with a sedan less than $70K (Guessing). Now think of what they can do with a vette and around $100K (Guessing again).

I love that CTS-V. Cadillac has been really impressive with that V platform.

Here's the kicker: They're building the coupe version with 550hp too.

They say around $60,000 for the CTS-V sedan, coupe should be similarly priced. I think it's excellent. First time I liked the modern Cadillac styling, they added enough curves to the straight lines.

thats very good for that car. the CTS isn't supposed to be a performance sedan, unless I've been misled.

does anyone else notice the 250 hp gap? ~250 hp V6, ~300 hp V6, ~550 hp sc V8? somethings missing in there.

Yup, there is: a new Northstar V8 that sales showed nobody wanted anyways, so they shelved it.

The only way I could afford that is with the GMAC Smart Buy. For example I looked at a $55,000 Corvette; $22,000 down(trades) - 72 mos conventional payment almost $700.

Smart Buy 48 mos $22,000 down - $299 month. Final payment around $22,000, so you refinance that or trade the car with no equity, but no $700 payments.

Or buy loaded mid-level Camaro and own it for around $300 mo $22,000 trade-in 60 months.

Caddy designers help with the Camaro.

Nobody wants a Northstar V8 since after about 30,000 miles those engines burn oil at a pretty good clip. Plus, GM has better engines lying around anyway.

The Cadillac Coupe borrows heavily from an old Mercedes. See below this very old hat look. Also I think the CTS is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. Especially HUGE taillights that work their creepy way up onto the top of the rear quarters, in a demented Volvo kind of way. Hideous.

Cadillac won't get rid of the egg crate grille because they think it is essential Cadillac. But why keep the most ghastly things simply because other cars have had them? I mean, GM said "thick chunky body cladding is essential Pontiac" and that was absurd. I think it is time for a new grille.

I'm definitely sorry you feel that way! :( Next to Camaro, I think the CTS is the most gorgeous car on the road right now, inside and out! And, ironically, I think the grille is one of my favorite features!!

EDIT: I didn't mean the Northstar comment like that . I meant that more poeple were opting for the more powerful V6 instead of the V8. That's why it didn't make enough sense to continue with the UV8 program. That's why they shelved it: GM had enough foresight to recognise a consumer-preference shift.

I'll agree to that.

And, if the engine does start burning oil a little faster than normal after 30K miles which brings down the resale value, I'll be looking to pick one up, for sure!
