Setup Crisis - Purchasing one of these tomorrow

Hey guys, Im torn between these two setups! Im going to Ragin Racing (a reputable LSX tuner in Louisiana) and planning to drop about $4,500 on everything for my L99

SETUP 1 :

DYNO TUNE
AMERICAN RACING HEADERS LONGTUBE
COLD AIR INDUCTION (VARARAM OR LMR)
CORSA SPORT EXHAUST
NGK TR6 SPARK PLUGS
PORTTED THROTTLE BODY
160* THERMOSTAT
OIL/GASKET
INSTALL

or

SETUP 2:

DYNO TUNE
VIGILANTE 3200 STALL
COLD AIR INDUCTION (VARARAM OR LMR)
STAINLESS WORKS HEADERS/EXHAUST
NGK TR6 SPARK PLUGS
THERMOSTAT
OIL/GASKET
INSTALL

Im not sure which setup I want to do. Im def. going to track it; but for the most part, I want it to be a semi-reliable streetable car with a really nice and aggressive sound with a good amount of power.

Going to raging racing tomorrow about this (picking up my l99 on friday! )

Any responses are appreciated

Thanks

Grant

extra notes:

I want the 3200 stall but I dont want to totally mess up the warranty and reliability of the car you know? I dont know that much about stalls and if anyone can eleborate on the pros and cons of a stall that would be cool. Im leaning more towards the first setup; or even possibly taking the first setup -corsa and +stall but i dont know if its streetable anymore then. but then again the 2nd setup is nice because the stainless works makes a nice sound (example on tagurit's car) but would it be to loud? gah.

Setup #2 will definately get you down the track faster due to the converter. You'll also need to find some drag radials to get the car to hook up with the converter.
But option # 1 might be a better choice for a daily driver because you retain the stock converter - you also won't open yourself up to "possible" tranny issues down the road. Sometimes (not always) a higher stall converter can open up a can of worms when it comes to tranny problems.

Most of the Long tube header combinations are going to make similar power.

I'm probably going with Kooks 1 7/8 headers for my L99. I've always like them.

But if you really like to drag race, the converter would be an excellent choice to go with your other bolt ons.

About the warranty, with those mods + tuning + converter, your warranty for the transmission will be out the window. But you'll still be able to get warranty work on unrelated stuff.

Yeah im not to worried about getting an AMAZING time; maybe I should go with setup 1 and stay with it if im satisfied; yet if I want to get more grunt add the converter later

Really depends on the price vs hp for each setup. Honestly, just look at the list & see which mods you would really like:

No doubt about it:
Tune
Exhaust & Headers
Thermostat

I wouldn't do:
Stall
Radials
Cold Air Intake (unless it's getting TRUE air that's not from the engine bay)

How much are you going to pay for the Stall/Radials/CAI? Why not put that money towards something else that you can use everywhere, and it doesn't have a "Lifetime"? Maybe a camshaft, different Heads, etc....Just some food for thought.

Go with the things that help each other for sure.

The tune, CAI, and headers with exhaust. The T-stat, plugs, oil/gaskets, and what about having the headers wrapped to keep more heat out of the engine bay? A coating will help, but wrapping them will work a lot better.

Just my $.02

I own a performance shop, and so do quite a few others on here so I am sure you will be able to find a lot of decent opinions.

I would almost bet you any amount of $$ you want.. that the converter and a set of tires, and a tune... ALONE..... will be quicker in the 1/4 than any combo of bolt ons you do without the converter.

hey gmag21,

i(LS3) had a dyno tune done by shawn at ragin about 1 month ago after i had installed a muffler delete, x-pipe, cai. he and randy do good work, my next step will be the port and polish tb.

another camaro5 member(BLT4SPD) from baton rouge has headers, tune, and cai.(thunder racing)

here is our last run from this friday night. BLT4SPD (L99)constantly runs in the mid 12's, this was my best pass todate.(13.373@112MPH). I'm in the left lane.

I would personally go with setup #1. jmo

I've got a full stainless works system w\ aggressive mufflers. As soon as I finish this project in Houston. I plan on doing a vararam intake, port & polish on intake and tb, and a dyno tune at ragin racin. I also bought a spare ECM for tuning.
