Wink Updates - 10/03/09

No pictures as I didn't take any for these mods.

Today:

Installed the new SLP skip-sift eliminator. No more Engine Check codes and works great!

installed the new Hurst shifter, but used the OEM handle/shift knob as I like the looks better. I put the car up on ramps, and used 2 floor jacks. It went very smoothly! Well, when I pulled off the stock shifter, it came loose right into my face :( Got a fat, bloody lip

Anyway, having small hands helped once again! Just like taking out the rear light trim rings, the install was fairly easy. I LOVE the way this Baby shifts now! WOW!!

This a one mod that was WELL worth it!! I just used some Dynamat on the inside, not underneath. I really like the positive click into each gear. My girlfriend liked the shifting much better also!

Also installed both front & rear Pdfat sway bars. I must say, the front was a BEAR to remove! Installing was easy, but getting that OEM one out was horrible! I think a trick was to turn the wheels to the right - even though I had the passenger front wheel off.

For the rear, I had to removed one of my Zoomers exhausts.

Car feels much tighter! I love the mods so far!

Now, waiting on GM for the darn interior lights for the Dash ABL mod! Argh!

Tomorrow will be SubThump's trunk woofer & amp!

I'm sure there will be more to come! I've been looking at buying 2 wheels/tires from someone else's rear sets and replacing my front 2 with those to remove the staggered setup. Still in the works...

Laters...

2 of my 3 DASH ABL lights are in at my local dealer. I'll pick those up tomorrow but will hold off until the 3rd comes in. Then it's the dash ABL next!

Dash ABL completed - 10/11/09

Ok, you can see hot spots and dead spots also. Overall, I'm happy with it though as I keep the dash lights very low, so you can barely tell it's on anyway.

Lowered - 10/28/09

Got her lowered with Vogtland NA Inc, lowering springs. Install went well and she looks & feels great! These are the pre-production springs and the install and springs were free

I did a quick writeup on this in the vendor section.

She has the same wheels/tires on all 4 corners: P275/40ZR20 & 20 x 9's

My question, and perhaps I have overlooked something, but how does someone get the lights to wrap around the whole dash like you did?
There are multiple threads for this DIY - look for Dash ABL (Ambient Lighting). I went the light rod and 2 GM light connectors. The sockets are already there and they dim with the dash lights.

No, it won't fit the 4". Zoomers had to use a smaller one. The ABL brightness is controlled by the dash light control. Also, the placement of the DigiKey light rod makes a big difference. There's a white strip in the back that needs to be turned so it faces back so the maximum light shines out. You can play with that after the install. I keep my interior lights dim at night as the light bothers my eyes. It looks great and is barely noticeable.

Thanks!
Michael J.

Where did you get the dash ABL's and did you install them yourself?

Look under the DIY threads for Dash ABL. The full parts lists are there - DigiKey light tube and GM lights. Full instructions are there also. There's also a DIY to improve the door ABL I did that one also.

not hard...great instructions!

JBA Shorty Ceramic Coated Headers - 12/04/09

Just got back from getting my JBA Ceramic Coated Headers installed. really great guys! Lots of amazing GT500's in the garage! Great facility, fast work, good service, very knowledgeable.

CamaroSSguy recommended them to me now I am recommending them to you! They also gave me a great price on the headers!

Greg Rentis - 619-569-4188
http://www.mustangsandmotorsports.com/ - coming soon

They installed the headers, and then reset the computer. Greg suggested coming back in about 500 miles to have them retorqued. I'll do that on the 18th right before heading up to Willow Springs

They used the gaskets that came with the headers. Also to note, you'll see the 1 red spark plug wire at the back on the driver's side. The headers do not allow the OEM wire to be used. So, if you get the headers from JBA, they recommend getting the full set of performance wires to go with them

I didn't think she could sound any better! I was wrong! The headers give The beast a little deeper & louder growl! I love it!! Didn't get her dynod, but butt dyno says she feels a little more potent!

How did you get the lighting on the front of the dash like on the doors?

There's a few DIY's on how to do the dash ABL. It's not hard. Take a look through the DIYs - they've esed light tubes, EL wire, and maybe another lighting. If you have a 2SS, you already have the connectors and GM sells the light sources.

You can do it without the ABL harness as many people have - switched, connected to the dimmer, or just on all the time...
