Road and Track: July '08

So Road & Track did a spot on the Camaro...in fact...it may even be on the cover, I haven't checked yet, but here are two images that were photochopped. You can see the SS emblems and the Camaro has been cleaned up quite a bit. Anyway here's the link: Camaro

I like the dual-dual exhaust...it looks really good on the new Camaro. I'm sure that this will be a possibility with the aftermarket. Maybe if SLP gets involved they'll make a true dual version of the Loudmouth cat-back for the new Camaro! I wish Road & Track would have gone one step further and photoshopped the concept headlights (or something close) onto the car. Oh well, but what do you guys think of R&T's interpretation??

Forgive me if this is a repost!!!

Eh...I skimmed it...it's stuff we've heard before. I don't like their take on the trim levels...but whatever. My personal opinion is just have this:

Camaro
Camaro SS
Camaro Z28

None of this LS and LT crap. But whatever Eh, just skim it...

I'm personally not ruling out the LT and LS thing for the V6 models, and RS/SS/Z28 for the V8 models. I would find that very acceptable trim names for the times...especially with the liklihood of 2 V6 models.

LS and LT might be trim levels when ordering, but repeat after me....They will NOT be Camaro models. Period. There is ZERO chance that Scott, or any one involved in the Camaro would use LS and LT as actually model names. We have RS, Z28 and SS. Pick a trim/option package after that.

That little SS on the grill accents those pre-pro lights, and makes them look decent. The quad pipes look SWEET!!

First off, no one is saying that it will be one way or another, I merely said that I'd hate if that were to happen. Secondly...NO ONE is questioning whether or not 'Z28' and 'SS' will be models, however, 'RS' has not been confirmed nor implied...so, 'RS' is just at speculation level...

yeah, i love the look of that exhaust too. Those wheels, I believe, haven't been altered by photoshop. They are the wheels that were being tested on the 'Ring.'

As far as R&T (or Car & Driver or Motor Trend) is concerned: I could give a rat's ass what they think. These idiots only care about foreign cars or ad revenue, not some "lowly GM car". I definetly don't thing the rear of the car would have a Chevy Bowtie AND a SS badge, that looks stupid. Just like the past, it would be one or the other, not both. I guess they couldn't pay someone enough for decent 'chops, cuz it should have had a production-look headlamp. Have I slammed R&T enough yet???

Did anyone notice the V8 model is supposed to be mid to upper 30s in the article? I thought upper 20s for the 400hp engine was too good to be true. I'm definitely not going to pay mid-to-upper 20s for a V6, I'd rather get the genesis coupe with the 310hp V6 for under 25g if that was the case...

I don't know about 2 V6's. Maybe a turbo 4 and a DI V6. But, two 6's? MMmmmmm....I'm going to have to say that wouldn't work.

Mid to upper 30's for a V8....I don't think so. The Camaro would flop before it hit the streets. TRUST ME.....THAT ARTICLE IS WRONG>

I'll say it again.

ATTN: CAR MAGAZINES: STOP PUBLISHING BULLSHIT!

If someone can find me a QUALITY car magazine I might think about a subscription. I'd rather get facts from Top Gear and Fifth Gear than read an American car magazine. That's how warped the magazines are nowadays...

Hey guys, stop bashing Road & Track, and Motor Trend (have fun bashing Car & Driver). You gotta remember, the people writting these articles are guessing just like we are. We dont know hp, price, model names, hell the SS could end up being the top level V6 for all we know (just... no). Go thru this site one time, and you'll find HUNDREDS of guesses, speculation, and photoshops (good and bad) about how we believe it will be like. Stop bashing them so bad, at least they are trying to keep us up to date (except Car & Driver, f**k them)!!!

Slated to bow in the first quarter of 2009 as an early 2010 model, it's expected that the Camaro will be offered in three trim levels — LS, LT and SS. The base LS may be powered by Chevy's 3.5-liter pushrod V-6 making about 220 bhp. The LT models would use the overhead-cam direct-injected 3.6-liter V-6 developing upward of 300 bhp, while the SS will be powered by a 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 (similar to that found in the Corvette) tuned to produce around 400–405 bhp. A year after launch, Chevy will introduce a convertible version and after that a high-performance Z28 model with a super-charged 6.2-liter sibling to the Corvette ZR1's LS9 motor known as the LSA. That engine would make somewhere in the neighborhood of 480–500 bhp and is similar to the engine used in the upcoming Cadillac CTS-V.
Guesses my ass. F**K R&T.

That wasn't too bad a read and the video had some new clips in there too, so that wasn't bad. I'm not a particular fan of that 'rag, but I think they didn't do too bad a job in this case. Most of it wasn't new, but the chops were pretty nice and the information seemed to be loosely along the lines of what we've been hearing/reading. I might have to pick this issue up just to add to my 5th. Gen. collection

Thanks for the post

The problem is that most of the time, they don't put off like they are guessing, they are trying to tell the readers that they have the facts, and that's what irks the community the most I think.

Ok big boy, I'm usually really nice, but this comment got me steamed.

1. I wasn't talking to you hence I didn't quote anyone. Rolling eyes are for teenagers.

2. I never said that there WOULD be an RS. Learn to read. I was giving examples of what type of models might be used (using monikers that have been used in the past - I could also have said ZL1).

3. Everything is speculation unless it comes from Fbodfather, so thank you for pointing that out Capitan Obvious.

4. My comment was simple...don't worry about an LS or LT "model" as it isn't going to happen. They might be used for trim level orders, but that is it. The Camaro has a long history, and LS/Lt isn't part of it.

Now stop being Mr. Sensitive and seeing attacks where they didn't happen. Also please learn to read.

Anyone have an idea as to why we haven't seen the production headlights? Are they that big of design challenge or secret? Are they something that has not been done before? I don't get it.

We were told that because headlights get beat up pretty good (rocks and debris causing scratches and such) they need to do a lifetime of testing on them before they are finalized. Apparently this is always the case, but nobody ever notices or cares.

SLP had shipped to them all the Z28's which they built into SS models for GM. Now, i have no idea how this is giong to work for the 5th Gens. If it was the same way going through SLP, then yes....it would be under warranty.

Only time will tell what can and can't be done. Personally, I'd like for my 5th Gen to go to GMPP and get some extra goodies put on before it is delievered....namely a cam and headers. But, we'll see!!
