Anti Theft Window Etching

Does anyone know anything about Safe Guards; THEFT PROTECTION PROGRAM LIMITED GUARANTEE AGREEMENT?

Dealer wants me to fill out this form and i believe its for the Window Etching which i do not want. Looks like it costs more $$$ than the $250 they told me from the begining.

Pleae advise...

If you don't want it, don't sign the paper.

My dealer did it without my authorization. One of the many things they do to earn a dollar. I think it's disgusting to do without telling the buyer. The option may be worth peace of mind-maybe- but thats not the point. They know your not going to say that you don't want the car; and they see that as a win and earning money.

Dealer tried to add it on to my Tahoe. When I saw it on the financing paperwork, I told them that I didn't agree to it and wouldn't pay. They took it off.

Anything the F&I department sells is either useless or can be bought much cheaper elsewhere. That includes financing.

That's a dealer scam to make more money! You shouldn't sign the paper and don't pay for a service they did without your permission/consent/or request! If the glass is already etched...the service is free to you...or have them replace the glass panels at their expense. don't let them coersce (sp) you.

Front and rear windows are etched with a number that can be traced back to the original buyer in case it's stolen. It's supposed to tell thiefs "Don't steal this car"---yeah right.

When I bought my car the salesman asked if I wanted to have these numbers etched into numerous parts of the car so it could be traced back to my car if stolen. He said it cost an extra $500. Said insuance companys like the idea. Told him no. If my car got stolen and they started finding these parts around, I surly don't want just parts of my car back.

Ok so i checked with USAA and they siad Window Etching is a great thing and it also lowered my insurance now that i will have it. Dealer charged around $200 for it and the way it works is if my car is ever stolen and never found i will get $2500 from Safe Guard on top of my insurance company paying the car off. If the car is found and returned you would get $500-1000 i think.

Guess i was a little confuse about it, only the one time fee of $200.....no big deal.

Check with your local police dept about the window etching. About 3 weeks ago I was on my way to Target and the local police dept were having a FREE window etching clinic right in the parking lot. Just drove up and they etched all 6 windows on my truck Windshield, 4 door windows and rear window all in about 5 minutes and all for FREE. Just needed to provide current registration and drivers license.
Dealers are a scam!

Send a message via Yahoo to CamaroScotty
Tell them you are buying the car for your collection, and glass etching has an adverse affect on collector value.

I decided to get etching as it lowered my insurances significantly. It will pay for itself in 2 years... And as I'm not buying this car for resale value, I'll save a few hundred each year after that!

Why pay way too much for something you can get for free? My dealer asked if I wanted for my Camaro, $249.00, I declined. I had my previous car done in a Target parking lot by the local PD, just as someone else had mentioned.

When we bought our Yukon, the windows were already etched. They then tried to sell it to us in the paperwork. We refused, end of story. They should have asked us first. Funny things is, we can still use it if the Yuke gets stolen.

If you will watch your paper, at least around here they do, the police once a month have a window etching day. They will etch all your windows for free, and then put it in there system in case anything goes wrong they have everything they need. You may want to just call them and ask them this, hope this helped.

What do you need window Etching for. All the cars are equiped with ON-STAR. ON-STAR can find your car, even if you don't have the service. What a SCAM.
