Nitto Invo's vs. Pirelli P-Zero's

I've tried them both now on my Camaro 2SS (L99) and like the Pirelli's better. The Nitto's do get some good grab off the line, but not that much better than the Pirelli's and the P-Zero's are a heckuva lot smoother for a daily driver.

I had heard good things about the Nitto's and decided that I would give them a try. I did not like them because they rode hard and provided too much feedback to the steering wheel. At first I decided that I would adjust with some drive time but, after about a week though I decided to switch back to the Pirelli's... and I was instantly glad that I did.

Big cost difference though, I got the whole set of four Nitto's for about a grand. The Pirelli's will easily cost me twice that, but at least I know what works best now.. at least, for me.

I like to feel the road too and can appreciate that form of feedback, but in this case by "feedback" I mean a vibrating/shaking steering wheel. Enough to make my watch rattle.

When taking turns or curves, or even driving under 50-60mph, they were what I'd heard about... but, for the daily 65mph+ HWY driver, they were too much drag and too little street.

Right... I won't knock the tire, as it definitely performed... it just didn't suit my day in/out needs.

Same size as the stock PZero's... on the 20" polished aluminum rims.

Couple months ago one of the Auto magazines did a test of performance tires. Out of the ten tested the Nitto Invo's were next to the bottom. Price isn't everything. Now, Nitto guys, don't shoot the messinger.

Yeah saw that article in Car and Driver. Was pretty cool. They were all tested against their benchmark the PS2's. The one that suprised me the most was the Hankook Ventus V12 evo's. Not a tire I would have considered but got great reviews and arent a bad price either.

Number 9, that is not the tire article I was referring to as it did not have the Nitto's in the test. Had to be in another magazine. Maybe someone will find the link. The bottom tire was a tire from China I never heard of and Nitto's close to the bottom.

Gotcha... I was wondering where the Nitto's were, as I was reading the review, and kinda figured there was a different review out there somewhere.

Which P-Zero's ? they have 5 different models.
I prefer Nitto's based on experience and customer service

I'll have to check the sidewalls to say for sure, but they are the P-Zero's that came on the car, if that helps at all.

There ya go. That is the one from Car and Driver with the Nittos in it. Did not perform very well. Did beat out the tire from China tho...

I have invos on my SS now 285/30 265/35 22s. i love them. ride to me is very smooth for a Z rated tire. A great bang for the buck, anyways I heard perelli is being phased out soon. They dont have great side protection at all IMO.

If you read that article I linked to you will see that the Hankooks were rated number two on the list and why. Also the Hankooks are about $40-$50 cheaper than the Nittos. Better tire and better price.

Damn good article. I see your point in rated qaulity and price. I agree the article did indicate overall rating of the Hankooks # 2. IMO I don't live by a single consumer reports article comparison. Used to do so for years. I sware that magazine was advertising $'s at work in several instances (Random other products we owned failed that where supposedly obvious # 1's).

Of note in your article...

"Nitto does offer a higher-performance tire, the NT05, which conceivably could have fared better but is not available in the size specified for our test." Tested size 225/40ZR18.

Had the NT-05 been used I think it would have been a better shoot out as the NT05 derives from a mix of the INVO street tire/555R II competition tire which is used in road coarse racing all over the country. Far better dry traction but slightly lower wet traction trade off. I have used the NT05 myself and its a monster for summer traction and decent in the rain ta' boot. Much better than my original 555R Drag Radials were! Lol <---Stupid driver moment indeed!. Also the INVO's I have sold typically end up on Euro cars (BMW, VW, HONDA, ACURA, ECT.) Noticed the article stated same tires as originally found on the ZR1 Vette. Interesting indeed!

BUT as stated...

NT05 wasn't used as tire spec. available:

N207-160 235/40ZR18 95W NT05 25.4 EA $132.00

As far as price on INVO sissy sized tire (225/40ZR/18).

My customers pay:

N202-940 225/40ZR18 92W NITTO INVO 25.1 EA $132.00

I digress...Looks like an all around valid article. Certainly has me calling a second tire wholesaler (American Tire Distributor) to sign up for an acct. as my current provider doesn't support Hankook. Would also like to see a challenge of tires my customers tend to use...295...305...335+ size tires...as I don't know anyone running around on 225/xx/18 looking for a serious performance tire.

Yeah they were using a BMW 328i with the stock rims and tires on there for all the testing. Still overall ,Car and Driver and TireRack were the ones doing all the testing. Figured it would be about as compete and unbiased testing as you can get. They did another one that was all season performance tires and the Continental DSW tires came out on top of that shoot out. For me those will probably be the next set for the Camaro.
