How much above MSRP will you go

I was wondering how much is too much above MSRP? I never bought a new car before.

I guess it's just a matter of how bad you want the car coupled with how much money you're willing to waste/spend (depending on your outlook on buying cars).

I'll pay MSRP...but not a penny more. GM says that's how much it's worth, then why should I have to pay any more?

0.00 minus my GM card earnings if I can use them minus whatever I can negotiate.

I'll wait as long as I need to wait. As much as I'd like to be first in line, that ain't gonna happen. Although I'll definitely stop by the dealership(s) to see what they have on the lot/showroom as soon as they come out. I may just go in the showroom and sit in it until they throw me out or have me arrested! And I'll definitely test drive one.

The salespeople will say, OH NO, not him AGAIN.

What he said. I tend to do most of my negotiating online before I even go to the dealership, so I'll know the price before my GMCard earnings and down payment are applied.

I also intend on trying to get financing myself before going to help my position.

Capitol One will give you a blank check for up to the amount you're willing to spend/approved for. Just like walking in with cash. I've always heard dealers dealers are more flexible when you're paying cash. Maybe that'll help.

I'd like to say zero. But probably I won't have that luxury what with it being an import and all. So we'll see.

I won't pay more then MSRP

Some of you mentioned the GMCard, does it put money toward any GM vehicle or is it only on select models?

They generally have a set limit as to how much of your earning you can put toward it, and there is often different amounts depending on the model.

I doubt I'll have much more than $600-$700 on the card, but every little bit helps.

IMO, unless you want to be "the first kid on the block with the newest toy", there is absolutely NO reason to pay above sticker.

When I was getting ready to buy the SS, I shopped several dealers, and just about all of them tried to explain the mark-up as a "by-product" of wanting a car that had to be "ordered". So, I just took my time, shopped via the internet, and ended up getting the SS under sticker.

Same thing occured to my brother when he was buying his C6.

As I said, unless you "gotta have it" immediately, if you're willing to do some "homework", and wait a little, you can get the car at sticker.

$0. I'd rather drive a few hundred miles to a dealer that'll sell me one at MSRP or below. I'll do all my price negotiating with the internet manager over the phone. And that'll only happen after my closest dealership gets sick of me looking at the beautiful Camaros on their lot.

Zero. I'm waiting until about 2012 anyway, and if they're still doing markups at that point I'll look elsewhere.

I'm not touching above msrp. I suggest that if someone finds a dealer selling at our below msrp they should post it up here or advertise it around. Let them get more business for what they gave you. It may also help those who are having trouble finding one that's decently priced

I'd like to say 0 however i have pretty much decided on the dealership already. They have a great reputation in northern colorado. They will only charge up to 1% over MSRP. which would be 350 if i spent 35k on my Camaro. However they have a dealer lifetime waranty with free oil changes and free loaner cars when your vehicle is being worked on. so the way i see it is 350$ for lifetime oil changes, lifetime warranty, and loaner car for as long as i own the car dosent sound like a bad idea as i plan on keeping this car forever

We already have a thread dedicated to dealers who have stated they will sell at or below MSRP. When the time comes, another thread WILL be put up for those who actually purchased their vehicles at or under MSRP.

Actually I want to modify my answer. I will pay what I see as a fair price for the car and what I can afford. It all depends on the performance, quality, features, and so forth. I may decide it is worth more than MSRP, less than MSRP, or exactly MSRP. I won't pay a penny more than I think it is worth though.

Same as most everyone else. I won't pay above MSRP. And I will offer them invoice just to guage them. I don't care if I could afford a $100,000 camaro, it's the principle of it.

ZERO,

If I need to wait a little I will. I can't understand paying thousands extra, and it will be thousands, to have it a few months early. There will be dealers which will sell at MSRP. I remember when the H2 came out Brickel Motors in Miami would sell you one that day for $15,000 over MSRP. Down the road at Williamson Cadillac Hummer they (at the time) would not sell a car above MSRP so they had up to a 16 week wait at one point that I can handle. Willaimson by the way was selling used H2s at market price so they would buy back you H2 giving you a profit and it used for over MSRP, but if you were willing to go on the waiting list you paid MSRP. I am sure you can find a dealer to do the same, I'll buy mine from Willaimson as any GM dealer can get you the car.

i will pay ZERO over sticker. no one has to pay over sticker. if a dealer charges you over sticker....go somewhere else. there are alot of greedy dealers and then there are alot of mom and pop dealers. dont pay over sticker for anything. would you pay more for a dinner at a restaurant if they told you the price on the menu wasnt right??? no, of course you wouldnt. so dont do it with cars.

unless its a bugatti veyron or a ferarri enzo.
