Looks like the pics in the install directions were done using a hoist, how much more difficult do you think it will be using jack stands and crawling under the car on the ground?

Not a lot more, But do it when the car is cold.
One more thing it my go faster as you don't have to lower the car 2-3 times like we did.

Does it actually need to be on stands? Is that for clearance only? Can it be driven up on ramps?

Put mine in today. Took about 2 hours and that was taking a couple breaks in between. The car just needs to be high enough to work under (in the trans tunnel). The throw of the shifter is much shorter than the stock one!

Did you get the car on four jackstands to install it? Can it be done on two?

I just jacked it up from the drivers side and put a jackstand at the front and at the rear so the whole side was in the air about 2' from the floor to the bottom of the rocker panel. Directions are pretty good. Hardest part was the 2 retaining bolts for the Hurst shifter and getting the darn rubber dust boot back in its little groove. I did print out the color instuctions 2SSRS posted at the top of this thread (easier for me to visualize than in black & white).

Do you need the "trim tool" to get the console cover off ?

No, I just used a small (pocket size) screwdriver to gently lift the rear of the trim. Then I slid a longer and larger screwdriver in and on each side there are clips that go into the base of the console. Just push the large screwdriver up to each clip and slowly twist and lift up and they pop out pretty easily. There are 3 on each side. Just work your way into it and it's real easy.

I just ordered mine. Good thing I shopped around. If you order it directly from Hurst's website they want $450, Jegs only wants $350. Crazy!
