Installed my shortie headers today.

I installed my Doug Thorley shortie headers today. Did it by myself in my garage with no lift, it took me about 3 hours. It is my only modification thats been done to my ls-3 engine and I can notice a major difference in power, the rpms climb so much faster now. As far as sound it is a little louder at idle but I can really hear a differerce when driving under load. I am very happy with the new sound and will keep the rest of the exaust stock. I feel these headers were worth every cent. I will now attempt to post some pics.

Looks good! I'm thinking about getting these myself. I wanted the ARH LT's but I don't want to have to get a tune. Did you need to disconnect the stearing shaft?

No, on the drivers side I went from the top I had plenty of room.

Yes the entire dipstick tube was removed, one bolt holds it in. It was kinda tricky to get it back in because you can not see the hole in the block from the top I had to crawl under the car to line it up. Make sure the rubber o-ring does not fall off the tube.

They had an extra 10% off for the labor day week. If you wait a little longer they probably will have another promotion.

You dont need a tune, but it would probably help. I installed mine a couple weeks ago on my L99, stock tune, no problems, loving them too.

Got mine from Autoanything for that price also, looks like they have their 10% off code now, look at the huge center ad, looks like its code WELCOME

You installed them in just 3 hours by yourself?! You must be pretty handy. It took bobby35ny and I 9 hours to put mine on, LOL!... Anyway, did you have any alignment issues with the downpipe flange? The flangeon my driver-side header was a good 2-3 degrees off and I had to have my exhaust guy heat and bend the stock exhaust pipe to get everything lined up and seal the leak we had there! All good now and I'm happy with the gains, but we shouldn't have had to go through that mess w/ a direct bolt-on.

Yes I am handy and also a diesel mechanic. I did have a slight problem with the alignment on the drivers side downpipe. I just loosened the band type clamp that attaches the cats to the exhaust and I was able to connect the flange to the header after tightening the flange I tightened the band clamp and everything was lined up and no leaks.

But what your butt dyno is feeling is the quoted 35 ft. lbs. of increase in torque. Now that's impressive for shorties!!!

Find that hard to believe? Go check out the dyno sheet in their Consumer thread. Shows 18 HP increase and 35 ft lb. TQ increase. Just had a set installed on my SS and they are truely awesome. The added throttle response makes the car almost difficult to drive slow and easy. Can't wait for the Vararam OTR system to ship.

We loostened that side too but the gap left was still too great.
I was NOT impressed with the flanges and the collector design. I might try the JBA ones.

Edrock I agree the added throttle response is making me drive a lot faster than I normaly do.Please let us know how your car performs when you get your vararam and try to post some pics.

Are the JBA's shorties and if so what are the gains. Good luck.
