Camaro vs Ferrari

Went to a family get together this past Saturday
thinking I was going to impress them with my new
Camaro, well cousin Anthony shows up in a 2004 Ferrari
360 auto trans he just purchased. I guess both cars got
equal attention it is a v8 not sure of the displacement
but how would my Camaro pair with the Ferrari ?

12.3 @ 113mph is sticking out in my head...180ish top speed.. (just off the top of my head..) The old 360 Modena would have no issue beating the new 5th gen.

Guys...it won't be that much of a slaughter, believe it or not...I've just read a few different articles on this car, and they all peg it at a 12.5-12.8 quarter, and a 0-60 at just over 4 seconds. And while the car is a Corvette-competitor (2 seats, lightweight, etc)...If "cousin Anthony" is a sucky driver, the Camaro has a chance (assuming it's an SS).

Be that as it may...chances of you winning, JerseyMonte, are low. Race for fun - not to win, if at all.

I was thinking the same thing. When I drove one a year back, I can tell you its only because the ferrari is lighter, because the 360 spider just doesn't feel like a ferrari if you know what I mean the 360 power just didn't feel like it even deserved to be labeled a ferrari.

Sure if you completely ignore the other time posted.

Dragoneye - The only reason I personally don't like to entertain things like that is you can't count on the other guy's inability to drive for a win. I do agree with you but I always assume best drivers in both cars when benchracing. For all I know OP would struggle to get a mid 13 out of his car so to be fair I try to look at the cars ability rather than what the average Joe can achieve.

The only dumb question is the one never asked. So don't crucify him for asking. He's cousin JUST bought it, he said...chances of him getting comfortable enough with a Ferrari (which I agree; under optimal conditions would beat a Camaro), is slim. There is a chance.

Be that as it may...I also don't like "because it's a *insert brand name here*" as a reason. So I offered an alternative view.

It's not a dumb question. And speaking from experience like I said the 360 doesn't feel like it should even have the ferrari label on it. The power isn't all that great and the only thing you really notice is the lightness of the car. Put it this way a 46000 LS3 vette will handle the 360 spider. So to think just because it cost 10 times the amount its a dumb question is stupid. The Camaro could hang right there with it. It would come down to the driver.

Hell, the base C6 Corvette could beat that thing. It consistantly posts time in the very low 12s, and handles just as well.

No need to take the mighty ZR1 out...that's cruel and unusual punishment!!

There is no comparison....he asked who we thought would win...we gave him a variety of outcomes (none of them, I believe, stating the Camaro would have it)....that's it. Why are you getting so defensive?

i agree that the LS3 vette will compete but the camaro is too heavy to compete

Umm.. I know you are not trying to..but do you know what an F355 is? How about the 550? The Camaro can in fact beat Ferraris... just depends on which model.

Do you even know the spec on a 360 spider? I can tell you don't, the spider only packs 400 hp and the TQ is little to none under 4000rpms. And to get the best performance out of it you need to be able to take the RPMS up to 8500 which is its rev limiter. And if you can't shift it correctly when approaching the high revs, the car won't do anything for you. But like I said it should win and do so because of the power it finally unleashes at high RPMS, but out the block it would play catch up. If drivers are equal the 360 wins, but to think it blows out the SS is crazy thinking itself. Its a spider 360 not a 599.

Ok you are not understanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying the Camaro is winning. Look I have driven the 360 and telling you how the car performs. From a stand still they will be neck and neck with the camaro pulling a little more in the beginning because of the TQ level at low RPMS. The TQ level on the 360 is really low until you get past 4000 RPMS, and thats when the car comes alive. But if you can't shift the car right away once in the high RPMS you will lose your power. Trust me I have done it, and its a lot hard to shift even with the F-1 trans. You will floor that thing and its got no growl to let you know when to shift once pass 4000 RPMS.

All I'm saying is that the SS wouldn't be to far (a car and a quarter) behind as long as both are running through their gears correctly. You just seem to think the SS can't compete when its the exact opposite any slip in not hitting your shift correctly is the difference.

TQ is key and the 360 requires very high RPMS to get the TQ out as oppose to the SS which can do it at low RPMS.

yeah its cool. Its just I hear so much about that spider where I'm at, and people seem to think hp wins the races. Then I point out the hp isn't where it is at, but more TQ when starting off and given the SS has 145 more TQ stock then that model, the weight advantage starts to become null and void but not all the way.

Yeah many people don't know but the TQ on that 360 is rated at 275 @ 4750 RPMS. Think about that for a moment, now what model of the camaro does that remind you of.

if modenas do run low 12s its going to be several car lengths ahead of the SS. Is 12.2 standard for them?

No it is not. More then likely you will get 12.5 to high 12's the majority of times.

Exactly..just like a 12.8 isn't a 'standard' time for a 5th gen. Unless you have a great driver in one car and a really poor driver in the other it would like be a 'close race' (perspective changes this) but the 360 will win by a few lengths each time.
