Remember the last time, info came in about the z28, majority of the people just shut it down...but then we got images and more deatails....dont shoot everything down, you just never know.
GM already knows that its getting an amazing response with the Camaro, heck theyre already making an executive package, they know the market is there, why would they pass on the Z28 especially if they have it designed already.

There have been TONS of cars throughout history that have been shelved for various reasons. They were all designed but never released. Saturn EV1 anyone?

GM knows the Z28 is low volume. The bean counters want to sell the eff out of the 29MPG V6 right outside of bankruptcy.

Think about it. Many of us would trade-up in a nanosecond for a new Z28. So, GM hooks us with a sale of a 2010 Camaro now and then gets us to trade in for a 201x Camaro Z28. Brilliant.
...no I think people would hold out on the z28 and NOT buy the SS now.

Let's be reasonable.

Is GM really gonna drop an off-the -shelf LSA into the Camaro and tweak the suspension and fascias?

You betcha!

We don't need no 2011 Mustang Coyote's blowing our doors off, now do we?

All I hope is they call it the ZL-1 instead of the Z/28. Z/28 should be our "Track Pack" and the ZL-1 fits more in line with the supercharged uber-performance model, a la ZR-1 Corvette.

It would be odd if this packcage was called a Z/28......

Motor trend article....

Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is GO!

"GM design chief Ed Welburn confirmed to us at the Frankfurt Show that the Camaro Z28 program is back on track. As we reported back in April, the Z28 was basically completed, with the design signed off, but the final engineering and certification work was put on hold as GM's financial situation spun out of control.

With GM now out of bankruptcy, the Z28 program has been restarted. Why? Insiders say the Z28 business case now makes sense because the new UAW contracts have reduced the labor costs on the car to the point where GM feels it can price it competitively -- and far enough away from Corvette. That's the good news. The bad news is EPA certification and GM durability requirements mean the Z28 is unlikely to go on sale until late 2011.

Our images are very close to the final signed-off design, based on photos of a scale clay model we've seen. Key details to note are the deeper front bumper fascia, with larger front aperture under the grille and the spotlights mounted in deep vents on either side. The Z28 also gets a different grille mesh compared with that of a standard Camaro.

At the rear is a taller lip spoiler that runs the full width of the car. A new rear-bumper fascia features a deeper section with integrated exhaust outlets. The wheels are 20-inchers with an aggressive "tuning-fork" five-spoke pattern.

A new hood features a large, forward-facing scoop. Underneath is the 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V-8 that also powers the Cadillac CTS-V. As we have already confirmed, this is quite a powerplant, delivering 556 horsepower at 6100 rpm and 551 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm.

The near-4300-pound CTS-V thunders from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and nails the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds (automatic) or 12.4 seconds (manual). Top speed is limited to 175 mph in the auto (to preserve the tranny), but the manual will storm to an autobahn-melting 193 mph. As the Z/28 will weigh 200 to 300 pounds less than the CTS-V, it may nail 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and run the quarter in the very low 12s. This Z28 could be the fastest Chevy ponycar since the legendary ZL-1-powered COPO 9560 Camaros built 40 years ago.

The Z28 is likely to only be available with a six speed manual transmission, unless GM can piggyback some of the car's certification on work already done for the CTS-V to get the automatic into the range at low cost."

I would say its going to be quite a bit lower if this is true...

I've been saying it for months. I think that GM is great to capitalize on a brand name so desperately wanted by so many enthusiasts, but a limited ZL1 is much truer to Camaro history when it leads the SS by so much. The Z28 is more historically the SS with better performance, not due to some massive kit or investment, but because it weighed less (impossible this generation), it had a better suspension (check: rumors indicate that a Camaro5 vendor is working with GM), and because it had different performance characteristics (sort-of-check: engine, but this one goes too far). The Camaro has always had a power source shared with a corresponding Corvette. If there is a base Corvette packing a GM V8 titled MT3, then the Camaro will have a slightly detuned MT3. The Z06 could therefore correspond similarly with the Z28. The upper tier of ZR1 and ZL1 packages could be different due to their nature in that the Camaro and Corvette peak performers have different markets, but the indisputable fact remains that any LSA-packing Camaro would outperform, at least on a dyno if not on a track, any LS7-packing Z06. By definition, this Camaro cannot be a Z28 as history would have the Z28 inferior to a superior Corvette Z06. While the SS (RPO Z27) should follow the Z28 on the track as an inferior performance package, the Camaro should always follow the Corvette as the inferior performance car.

I hope GM looks at its history and offers a super Camaro in the proper name. If GM fails to do this, it will be more difficult for GM to lower its performance as may be needed in the future or offer a higher package as demanded thereafter.
