Car N00b with some questions...

ok, I have only just now began getting into cars... I love my baby so much and I can't wait to beef it up a bit more so it can stand up to some of the bullies on the road. I tried looking for a thread on this, but got impatient quickly and gave up.

I don't know much about this stuff so my questions are:
1. What's the difference between Turbo and Supercharger? From what I understand, Turbo is a bolt on and doesn't void the warranty (something that's debatable) and superchargers void the warranty?!?!?!
2. Which is better?
3. Which has more gains/bang for the buck?
4. Which one's better for your stock engine?
5. Which will break your engine faster?
6. Can both be put on and used at the same time?

Dennie,

Both will "void your warranty" !

Both do essentially the same thing - force more air into the engine. The turbo uses exhaust gas to spin a turbine that pressurizes the air. The downside is the heat they generate- some people love them (I do). Superchargers use a belt that is attached to the motor to pressurize the air.

My opinion is the supercharger is the best setup for the Camaro, but there are some remote mount turbo's that kick ass, I wouldn't mind riding in a Camaro with those rear mount turbo's.

As to breaking the engine, both put extra load on the engine, so either could break it just as fast- more than likely though, the turbo or supercharger wouldn't break it, you would by pushing it too hard.

You cannot use both at the same time, you have to pick one!

Read through this sub-forum, you will get a lot of info. I'd say some are better than others.
