Dealership and Ordering Question.

Just wondering each of you who have ordered a camaro how much did you put down on a payment and did you discuss your downpayment and price when you ordered? I'm really close to ordering but still need some more information. I know dealers are marking prices up right now and I know what the model I want should go for with the options I want.

I asked around and heard conflicting information. One person said that with a high down payment the dealer would probably give a great deal because of the money that I place down and because it adds more to their commission because they have a certain number they have to hit in money. Is that true? The other person told me that this is bogus.

Really apreciate any feedback.

$500 deposit, that was my only downpayment. All I discussed at the time of order is that it would be GMS or no deal. I got GMS.

ambitious, go to your dealer with info. not empty handed. see what kinds of discounts you are able to qualify for, then ask your local dealer what the cost is on the camaro. and ask if he will honor any discounts that apply. dont let them fool you, this is not a limited edition car!!! you should not pay over MSRP and you should get discounts. then ask your dealer how many people are waiting to order and how many allocations they recieve monthly. if he cannot place your order w/allocation within a few weeks then MOVE ON to another dealer. there are many dealers who are screwing customers and there are many who are treating them right.
as far as the down payment, it makes no bearing on how much you put down except to qualify for a loan.

read the threads in this forum to learn more about it.
there is a wealth of info here. good luck

That is B.S. on higher comission and getting better deal. Remember one thing, wether you pay the dealership in cash, or the bank pays the dealership in cash, its still cash. Only thing a big Downpayment may help with is getting an easier approval and can make it easier for bank to get you better interest rate due to the structure of the deal.

Thanks everyone all the advise is helping, this will be my first time buying new, my last car I bought from a private party. I've got 6k now I'm saving a little more to put down to trim my note down. I'm holding off because I'm trying to get more information and I'm waiting to see what Chevy is going to do after they report their 4qt profits in Jan. Right now I'm looking to order in Feb and at the rate I'm saving I should be right at 10,000. Buying the 2lt.

10000 will be a great downpayment assuming your credit is good. You never know what kind of tricks the dealer may pull, because they figure once you order the car, you're hooked. Be patient and hope that the first dealer you pick is the right one. It seems like most dealers (cant speak for every state) have stopped marking above MSRP. However there are still many that are. The ones around my area that are, unfortunately, are doing that to people that dont get the final order price in writing to begin with. They tag on however much they want when it comes in or sell it to someone else. Make sure you get everything in writing, like a contract. Your timing may run into model year transition FYI, or a delayed order as they get ready for the 2011. Incentives are only good when the car is actually on the lot and ready to be financed.

Yeah my credit is really good so the finance part shouldn't be too bad. I thought the 2011 model had gotten scrapped by gm, you're talking about the convertable right? Been trying tofind out when those are going into production because once the new car effect cools off the dealers are going to be a lot easier to deal with.

I ordered 2SS RJT On 8/4/09, NMZT1B as of 10/4 still at 1100? I put 10k down to maybe grease the "production wheels" obviously it did'nt work! The Dealer told me my Deposit was non-refundable, which is not true! I am going back this week to either get back the Deposit or some answers to where it is at!

When I ordered my car, I discussed everything I had questions about up front. I even had a different salesman meet me in the parking lot when i arrived to actually order it, and he tried to tell me what a great deal he would offer me and it would "only be" 2500 above MSRP. The funny things is the salesperson I was dealing with originally told me that they were selling at MSRP. I asked him if XXXXX was available and he looked pissed. I guess she sells more than he does. Anyway, XXXXX and I met, re-hashed everything we had talked about, and we went to the sales manager. I got everything in writing and he gave me copies of everything signed. I had several sheets of paper with the options, (dealer installed) and he said he would also honor the MSRP listed on the pages when the parts came available. GM Performance parts listings, Dovetail spoiler, short shifter, etc... Again this was in writing. I did ask him if the spoiler came in primer or in car color. He said he wasn't sure, but if they had to paint it that would be extra. I ix-naid that by mentioning that if it was installed prior to taking delivery of the car, I wouldn't have to pay extra. He chewed on that for a minute and also signed off on it not costing any extra regardless of how it arrived.

Of Course, delivery and contract signing will tell the true tale, and thats about five weeks away as far as I can tell...

So far I'm happy, other than my TPW being pushed back a week by GM.... Probably can't be helped... Dealer is supposed to be checking on that as well.

All the dealersips here are still marking up the cars and not giving discounts to employees. One of the parts managers at a store we own purchased his camaro from a dealership in the states and had it delivered to us as bit of a middle finger for not giving him the discount.
