It's a project GTO that they eventually put Stainless Works full exhaust on, some suspension work, N20, AFR heads and a cam, and some other little goodies. It was a customer who bought the car, and then let them have at it.

Our suspension shouldn't look like that if the undercarriage pics' we've seen are accurate since this is a GTO.

If the camaro comes with a setup similar to the CTS V, wow. I don't expect it for a while though.

Yes the Challenger does have IRS thats why in most of the comparison tests that are being held now, (Motorweek, Motortrend, Edmunds) the Challenger is spanking the GT500.

The original title for "Alien vs. Predator" was "Alien vs. Predator vs. Chevy Camaro." It was cancelled in preproduction, because film execs knew no one would pay 9 bucks to see a movie 14 seconds long.

Maybe Chevy is on to something here, the only thing about it, don't expect the high HP rate of a solid axle if it does happen to appear, breaking one of those axle shafts or blowing out a CV joints could be easily done if Chevy don't plan things right. Much like what happened when people started putting miles on there KB Cobras, I know more people with SA Cobras then IRS.

IRS can be built to handle power just fine. MKIV Supras are easily 800+ RWHP cars and most run the stock IRS. I speak from experience (not 800 rwhp, but a pretty peppy Supra nonetheless).

Are the V6 models getting IRS also? I hope if they do get IRS's that it won't jack the price up too far over the V6 Mustang.

Not to start a 2jz vs. LS fight but low end torque is what destroys an IRS. I definitely think you are right though. An IRS can be built to put up with a lot. There are Corvettes that do it and there are Termi Cobras that can build theres to be pretty stout as well.

The re-engineering would cost more than just going with IRS on all models. The platform is designed for IRS: see G8, commodore, vxr8, etc.

Veyron anyone?

Veyron has 1000hp. It has IRS. It CAN be done...

5th Gen challenge? Axle hop. Strength... eh, maybe an issue if you start pushing 1000hp or something, but up to 500hp (Z28 territory) it'll be fine.

Doesn't mean it can be done affordably.

True that! I think GM will use Torque Management (TM) to help preserve the trannies and rear ends in these cars. It seems that would be the easiest way, to me anyways. I know the TM in my car, with the big converter, is a power killer. Any throttle more than 1/3 open feels like the car is hitting the brakes between shifts; it's aweful.

In referrence to the blog, look at what GM's done with the 'Vette to combat the wheelhop. They are actually tuning the frequency of the IRS to combat the wheelhop. It's pretty dang cool if you ask me.

I don't have a problem with the IRS. I'm sure there are going to be more companies that come up with things to make them survive longer. I do know that the clunky rear ends I've had in my two 4th. Gens. we certainly not optimal for much abuse.

Doesn't really bother me THAT much since I'm planning on getting the V6 - 273 torque and 304 hp is good, but I doubt it will be enough to destroy the IRS, even with the exhaust and intake upgrades I'm looking at doing.
