Yeah I'm planning on doing the fuel rail flip. Got some maintenance to do first after 3 track days. I also hit a cone that had gotten flipped out on the track and it messed up the yellow paint on the lower front passenger side. Need to get that fixed too.

Here's a shot of the car at the last track day I went to a few weeks ago. That's not my trailer behind the car but I thought it was a good looking shot anyways.

I have been looking into getting a new 1le and I have been reading a lot on this site lately. This had been the best thread I have found for info on mods. Your explanations, pictures and weighing everything have been great. Thanks for doing all this.
I have a 4th gen that I autox and I am obsessed with getting the weight out, but I have to stay with in the rules of the class I run. I got my car down to 3160 with full interior minus the stereo. i cant wait to get started on a 5gen.

You're more than welcome. Start a project thread once you get your 1LE; I would have loved to have started with a 1LE if they'd been available when I bought my SS.

Hey Doc - Hope everything is going well. Love your thorough journal that can constantly be referenced!

I was wondering how your seat conversion was coming along, if you're still doing it. I've been trying to look into doing a driver seat swap for the track. Id like to have the OEM seat for the street, and sparco for the track. Main reason im doing it is for headroom, but id probably do a harness and everything if possible at once. What are you looking into in terms of braket? Seat Model? Do you know of any issues with ABS when the seat is unplugged? Thanks!

Thanks. No I haven't looked into seats yet, been busy helping a friend through a recovery from major surgery. I'll probably look into it after the holidays when I have more time.

Been following this thread off and on for months. Great work! I'm kicking myself for not documenting my build (i.e. the weight of everything) as well as you have. Thanks for sharing!

Hey I was wondering have you had any issues with brake fade with RB rotors? and why not just upgrade to 6 piston cts-v brakes? mostly asking because I can't decide which route to go and I like the way you have done everything for your car.

I wish I had thought to weigh my car at a truck scale before I had done anything to it so I'd have the starting weight but otherwise I think I was able to get all the important stuff documented. Glad it was useful to you!

No brake fade whatsoever. I thought about upgrading to 6 piston Brembos in the front but that was about $4k and at the time there weren't very many options available yet. So for half that I chose RB and their rotors have performed flawlessly. And (for me anyways) the savings in unsprung rotating weight was the bigger benefit. That helps not only for braking, but also for acceleration and suspension response when cornering.

Another advantage is because of their design, under hard repeated braking like you do on a road course they run about 150 degrees cooler than a solid rotor. So unless you're going pro or semi-pro racing and need the 6 piston brakes, the stock SS brakes and RB rotors make a great performance combo.

I enjoy re-reading your build thread once in a while, again thanks for taking the time to write everything down.

So all in all, looks like you can pull 200 lbs of out the car, maybe 225, without removing the seats and stuff like that.

I think I'll keep running my car at the strip, dial in the new parts that have been installed, and then embark on a quick trip down weight reduction lane.

If you remove the right kind of weight, it's amazing the difference it can make.

Yeah I got 300-400 out of a few 4th gens but they lost creature comforts like A/C.

Did you say earlier whether you current 19" tires put you at stock height or are they shorter than stock?

They aren't as tall as the stock tires but I lowered the car to close the wheel gap.

Hey doc i know you're not much of quarter mile guy but did you ever get the chance to actually take it to your local track to get some numbers? I love your build btw the unorthodox way to produce power is the mpst effective way

Not for the quarter mile, but the guys who do run the quarter tell me with my setup I'd probably run somewhere in the 11's. One of these days I may run the quarter once just to get an actual number.

Thanks for the compliments, I've really enjoyed this car.

Thank you one and all; your appreciation is appreciated.

Considering that your thread Nathan has become THE epic mod thread ever on this site, that's high praise indeed! Whenever I log on to C5 I always check first to see what's new with your thread. Your zeal, enthusiasm, energy, accomplishments, bank account and sheer craziness is a sight to behold lol.

How much weight have you shaved off in your engine bay so far Nathan?

Thank you Justin. Coming from you with the crazy epic build you and your brother are doing, that's generous praise indeed!

After reading through you and your brother's thread, I've been pondering many things. I'm considering going more towards track-based. I'm researching wheels/tires that are more track oriented, racing seats/harnesses, upgrading the front brake calipers, and possibly going with the Optic Armor glass for front and sides. Not sure about replacing the rear window since it has the defroster grid and radio antenna in it. I'm waiting on exact weights of the Optic Armor pieces from Jim.

Your guy's thread is a treasure trove of useful info, ideas and it's a real pain in the butt...er...wallet. I can't wait until you guys finish so I can take my credit cards out of hiding.

Can't wait to see where you go with that. There is a lot of weight to be lost in the seats. The stock seats are so freaking heavy! Plus some more aggressive Side bolsters will keep you in place nicely at the track. Win win

G5.R is getting some very nice seats.... soon hopefully.
