Best way to launch manual trans LS3

I took my SS (manual trans) to the track yesterday for the first time. Tried launching at 3500rpm with competitive mode activated. All I got was a ton of brake chatter, no momentum, and a disappointing 13.9 sec run. Then I tried turning traction control off completely and launched at 3500rpm, and I ended up going sideways and had to let off the gas to not cross into the other lane (14.3 sec). Then I tried launching at 2000rpm (with traction control completely off)...still went sideways a bit and had to let out the gas (14.1 sec).

Does anyone have any advice to offer for how the hell to get a good launch out of this car? The car made great power once I got moving (106mph), but I kept getting beat by mustangs because I couldn't hook up well off the line. Should I use competitive mode, or not, and what is a good rpm range to launch at? Anyone who's figured it out and can offer any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

i launched at 3600rpm when i was n/a. u just can't drop the clutch when u take off though, sounds like thats ur issue. you have to play with the clutch a bit to get the car to hook then hammer it.

Yea 3500 then a fast slip to get it moving. Some tire spin but not much. Dont let out too slow or you overheat the clutch. Did that my first pass.

My results were about the same 13.91 @ 109 dissapointed, that was 2000 with traction control. I uped the anti with traction control off and then tried competative mode it went ballistic. 2.6 60' that's leaving .5 of a second on the table. Seen M6 Camaro's go 2.1 60'. So needless to say the first 60' is so important. That's why the A6 Camaro's do well in the 1/4, takes less skill to make it happen.

pull around water,if possible;back up to water box. do a few practice launches. most likely the car in other lane will be doing some stupid s#$t.so you have lots of time. get a feel for you're car launching, even if it takes a few tries.that's why they call it -test&tune.

So 5200-5500rpm and then ride the clutch out (as opposed to popping it quick)? Did you mas the gas at the same time as riding the clutch out, or wait to you felt it hook?

You'll feel the car move slightly, hold the clutch there and slightly give it more gas and release the clutch at the same time. You might haze the clutch a time or two but it will be fine. You'll get it, practice makes perfect. The longer you ride the clutch and keep the momentum of the pig going, the better 60ft you'll have. If you release it to fast it will bog.

These are the questions I have too. I'm getting a new driveshaft put into my car and when I get it back I plan on taking it to the track.

Also, what tires are you using?

Awesome...I'll give that a shot. Was that with competitive mode on, or with traction control completely off?

I had the same dilemma at first, my end conclusion was that, with these stock tires at the track you can't launch at more than about 2500 rpms. The only way I can get a decent 60' is by setting my tires at 25psi as well

You used the launch controll incorrectly, you have to hold the gas until it reaches its programmed RPM

speaking of launch control...when I tried messing around with it, the computer doesn't hold the engine at a programmed rpm...it just goes right to red-line. aren't you supposed to hit the button twice so you see the little competitive mode icon, then stop completely, depress the clutch, mash the gas, and it's supposed to hold itself at 4000rpm? that never happened for me. i end up having to hold the rpm myself.

It would be nice to know in what mode the master launches it and if he is running stock Trans/Axles and Driveline

Really? Thats odd, mine holds it, then I dump and go and it works fantastic, there is however a little wheel hop but it truely does grab and go.

All traction devices are off, stock clutch and axles. I run a m/t radial, I use the same method on the stock tires.
