Camaro, the GT500 is pretty quick, but it handles like an ox cart.

Ofcourse it will beat the GT500 in every way.. The question to ask Fbodfather is will the top of the line Camaro Z28 beat out the GT500KR model which is faster than the GT500..

well lets see a gt500 has roughly 500. . .gt500kr has roughly 550 and from what I remember the GT500 weights close to 4300 lbs. . .if our car is anywhere close to 500 and has the same weight. . easily done.

forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't the GT500KR considered a supercar and thus not in the same segment as GT500 or the Camaro?

+1 I don't think comparing the two is objective. Isn't the KR like $75K? If we can get close to 550 horse, I'd be super happy. I'm a little worried that it sounds like Ford is possible killing some of the BOSS program though; it makes me think that perhaps Camaro isn't far enough along in it's powertrain development that a speculated supercharged model will be axed before it makes it to us. I hope that's not the case because these gas prices aren't scaring me away.

If we do end up with the LSA and end up with a coupe thats lighter than the G8. I would believe that we can match or beat the CTS-V's 0-60 time of 3.9 and 1/4 time of 12.0

haha, so it seems PRIVATE messages aren't so private.

Best in segment/best in class means just that. BEST.
So don't debate on whether or not it will be the best, but speculate on how.

I truly hope Chevy and Ford can keep up the "model wars" much like the Viper Vs. Vette fun that has been had over the last 4 years!.....

Chrysler: "My engine's bigger than your engine."

Chevy: "Oh yah!? Well my car's lighter and cheaper than your car, and it doesn't sound like a UPS truck!"

Chrysler: "So what!?!? We'll just crank out another 100 HP."

Chevy: "Yawn. Cool. We'll stick a supercharger on the thing, make 30 more HP than you, add a launch-control system, put on wheels wider than your average Neon, and throw in some ceramic brakes big enough to stop an aircraft carrier, to boot!"

Chrysler: "Don't make me bust out the wings and ground-effects on yer azz!!!"

Anyone want to carry on with the "Camaro Vs. Mustang" version of this!?!? C'mon, you can DOOO it!

I respect both makes, and if there is a healthy competition, we ALL win out!!

MY question would be: WHEN will we get the TOP camaro (i.e. apparently Z28)???

Will we have to wait for 1, 2 years? I really hope the testing cars may show that the Z28 will be available as soon as the SS.

+1 to 2KZ28 and Punk'. Are we and when are we getting this bad boy already?! I won't be able to afford one until probably 2011 but I'd still like to know what to look forward to

It is believed to be coming out within a year of the 'lesser' models going on sale. Possibly as little as 6 months after.

Even the GT500KR is still a "Live Axle" rear suspension, which dooms it against
the Camaro.

I don't know if it is reasonnable to believe you, but I LOVE to believe you!

I've saved 30K Euros since june 2007. If I have to wait one more year, I should be able to pay around 50 K EUROs, meaning I could afford (with shipping and charges) a 60-70 K camaro ...

So ... I hope the beast will be available soon ...

That is why I asked the question.. The GT500KR might beat out the top dawg Camaro in a straight line, however around a track the $40,000 Camaro Z28 probably will be able to smoke the new Knight Rider GT500KR priced almost twice as much...

WELCOME jimbo1a! I sure hope it would top out at $40K but really can't see that happening.

GT500 is just better

Sorry fella's, the 2010 GT500 has everything the GT500KR had minus the 3:73 rear end... at $45,000 ... and it will stomp the SS/RS Camaro every time all the time.. I applaud the SS's effort, however, it cant match the 2010 GT500.. also a fully optioned Camaro SS runs about $44,670 (thats every option minus the automatic) with automatic it runs about $46,600... Oh yeah Ford is quoting 0-60 =4.2mph and the 1/4 mile in 12.4@ 119mph with 540hp & 510lb-ft of torque per ford... oh yeah.. get your hands on a new mustang brochure and you will notice on page 27 ford is offering a track pack for the Mustang GT and a Super-Drag Pack for the GT500, it offers 605hp and its all covered under warranted for 3yrs /36000 miles... oh yeah its also much faster and ford figured out how to get rid of that horrible super charger whine too.. just a sweet V8 rumble. So in conclusion unless GM unleashes a Z28, which they wont, as GM is strruggling with finances and they need to manufacture as many small fuel thrifty cars as possible or they face ditching more than just Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, Oldsmobile.. oh yeah Buick is next unless they do more.. as they make 2 cars that appeal to folks 55yrs & older and a crossover SUV that may be slightly more successful or not. In any case I hope that Chevy does make the Z/28 with the CTS-V motor -556hp.. it all makes for great competition... Oh, I hear the convertible Camaro version was put on the back burner along with all future rear wheel drive GM vehicles, they have been purged from any possible production schedule unless there is a major, major turn around...

Just a heads up,
I really want there to be a american muscle war/competition, so the Challenger SRT8 & Camaro SS are vital to this cause... so cut the crap fellas, break out the piggy banks/visit your local loan officer and put your money where you mouths are... lets see some big Camaro production numbers... regular, LT, RS, SS, or SS/RS (who cares just buy one if its your thing), I'm a Blue oval (Ford guy) I'm getting a 2010 GT500 (Kona blue w/white stripes) or (Grabber blue w/red stripes) not sure yet... I'm still debating.

God Bless America, and American Muscle cars.

Until the day we ever may see the new Z28 (stillborn), the stock SS won't do the trick against the GT500--numbers don't lie, although put $10K into it and it just may.

2010 GT500

Just adding a little more info.. the regular Mustang GT was tested with a track pack and it handled slightly better than the Camaro and the 2010GT500 has ben improved further... so to the other person who posted the comment it handles like a ox-cart, not anymore.

Good luck GM guys/gals
