Chris Brannon Drives OEM and Super Car on Track

We have a detailed suspension thread in another area of the forum, but that doesn't belong here. This area is all about driving and that is what this post is about.

Watch the video on HQ on a full screen closely and several times. You'll see our professional driver jumping corners and sliding through turns. He used this technique because with street tires on the cars it was the fastest way through the corners and Chris is all about being fast. I am emailing this link to Chris so he can chime in with answers to your driving questions.

Chris, do you think you'll be able to make it to the track day next March 28/29th?
Would be great to have a ton of Camaro people come to the track day with you there.

Now you know why I rely on Chris and Stan to our ultimate testing. I am a good driver. People ask me to teach them. Then I ride with Chris or Stan and remember I need to learn how to drive.

Where will this track day be? I will do my best to help out! I enjoy driving the cars obviously but hanging out with die hard hard enthusiasts for a weekend is the best thing ever!

Yes. I have at least 500 laps at Hallett. I had the track records in Touring 1 and Touring 2 for a period of time. Tiny track and way out in the middle of no where but I have had a lot of fun there.

Take a look at this video from Hallett. The in-car is from someone else's Corvette. Start watching from about 8:20 into the video. Be looking for a red GTO that is going 100 mph, diagonal and 2" from the snout of the vette. Corner was off camber over a blind hill and I never lifted !

Here is my in-car from Hallett when I got the T1 race lap record. I was in front so it is kind of boring and far as fender to fender action. Still fun!

At about 8:45 there's a BANZAI! move by some crazy GTO driver having to go wide around the Vette... You call it diagonal, I saw a 100 mph drift! What is it with you and Vettes?

Those will be good vids to study if I ever get the opportunity to go.

Chris and/or Pete.

What dyou you think about the power steering assist? We've had a few owners say that the steering wheel feels far to light to feel comfortable at higher speeds...

What do you think?

Thanks,

Chris only gets to drive my cars so fast. he hasn't had it about 120 MPH I'll speak for myself and say it felt great at 175 MPH. It is my opinion that the vague on center feel is in large part a result of numb OEM alignment specifications. before I say more, I'll let Chris speak up.

Although I didn't focus on the steering or worry about it, I would have to agree that the stock Camaro did feel light and loose. Definately solved with suspension and alignment. The GTO, G8 and Pedder's Camaro had no steering issues at any speed. I got the G8 into the 150 zone at New Jersey Motorsports Park and it felt incredible.

Also the tires connect our iron with the roadway albeit highway or road course. There isn't a factory installed tire that I am excited about on any car. Yes......vettes and new Camaro's included. All of these factors make a huge difference in acceleration, braking, handling and steering as well as general feel.

Lawton, Oklahoma. No place to play over here... Hallett is about the closest place that I know of. That sure looks like an interesting track.

[edit] I just found Eagles Canyon raceway online... 2 hrs away... hmmmm

I am not familiar with Eagles Canyon. Have you been "on track" before? If not, you will have a blast no matter where you go. Hallett is a good beginner track because it is very safe. It has lot's of run off room and then tire walls everywhere.

very cool.... I recommend leaving off the music next time... Tires / Motor is way better than porn guitar in the back ground.

I always admire talent. I did a bunch of autocrossing in my younger days with the hope of doing a Bp Corvette. Back then it was reasonable to build a car and race it. In fact, I even built the chasis. But it came down to making a decision between the racing, and my wife. She was too scared

So watching great driving skills, makes me smile with admiration.

No official paved track experience, but spent my teens and 20's in the dirt, unorganized baja type buggies (VW), parking lot carting in my early 20's, and 25 years of exploring the handling capabilities of 18 wheels... As of late been trying to organize Big Truck Drifting, but it's not catching on for some reason

Looks technically similar to hallett??
