Anyone have 1-2 shift issues?

Sometimes shifting from 1st to 2nd the stick will be totally locked out of second. It wont go in no matter what except to let it naturally float to neutral and then put it in second. Not hard on the throttle either... Not in comp mode... It only happens about 1 in 20 shifts but that sure is enough for me to get a little bonkers, lol.

Its the "skip shift" feature. A little lite should come up by the speedometer...it basicallly wants u to shift to 4th gear instead of 2nd...can be fixed with tune or eliminator

It's designed to 'save gas' and you'll get used to it. Doesn't do it all the time, but can freak you out when it does. Don't fight it or you'll eff up the tranny. It def lets you know it's going to do it in the DIC between speedometer and RPM dials.

If the throttle is at 21% or less and the vehicle is fully warmed up it WILL do it so if u give it a litttle extra throttle out of first it will not do it or if the vehicle is not warm it will also not do it.

accelerate a little harder or shift a bit later and it won't activate, this is a free solution (since all will end up costing you a little in gas). Or eliminate it completely with a store bought resistor (couple bucks, but mistakes are relatively easy to make), a commercial kit (few more bucks, harder to screw up), or a professional tune (more expensive but you can blame them if things go wrong).

Thank you all! I actually saw the 1-4 display on the DIC today when it did it. This was the first time I noticed it. I thought for sure my tranny was in need of some break-in... I ordered the SLP skip shift eliminator with my exhaust and Eibach springs. I got the exhaust on last night and I spent all day today driving it around and trying the "load" break-in... The new exhaust sounds amazing but I ended up having to pull the center brace out completely. I just can't get the 3" pipes over it without it rattling at least a tiny bit...

I had the same problem with my ARH 3" pipes rattling on the tunnel brace, got me a replacement from MBRP that comes with thier exhaust kit. It clears the pipes with ease.

I looked up their web site and I like the way that looks. I called my local MBRP dealer to see if they can get the part or not...

Thanks!

Just order a skip shift eliminator from SLP. I love mine and it does not come on anymore!

With the eliminator, your display will still come on but you can shift to 2nd. It drove me crazy.

I would let it go to neutral let go, then grab and it would go into second no problem but I was definately thinking it needed to be broken in a bit... So I intentionally took routes with lots of stops and turns so I had more chances to use 1-2 shifts... I got the SLP skip shift eliminator and it works like a champ! No more forced shifts...

What does the sse cost, where do you get them and does installing one mess with the warranty on the car or powertrain?

I just did a google search and found the SLP one. I ordered it from Summit for like $30. The instructions do say that it is not for use on "emissions controlled" vehicles so I am guessing that it might throw some kind of code to the computer but nothing that pops up on my dash displays... It is plug&play though so if you if you are going into the tester you can just remove the adapter. It is pretty simple imo...

the skip shift feature was designed to "reduce emissions". it should not flag a code of any kind. you can make your own for 5-10 bucks or spend the 30 bucks for one from a retailer.

I am aware of the skip shift thing and it happens pretty seldom - but I am seeing that shifting 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration seems very clunky at times to the point that it feels like the car does not want to shift into 2nd.

Kinda like the skip shift feel - but happening at 5000rpm....

Every other shift is smooth - but the best way I can put it is that I dont trust that I will always get a smooth shift 1st-2nd .

Has anyone else encountered this and has it smoothed out over time or is this just a feature of this transmission ?

I'm also trying to decide if a Hurst or MGW would address this.

Dealer says needs breakin period of 50 miles of city driving if your camaro was built before June 18,2009. After that date the breakin will be done automatically at the factory. But my Camaro was built in August of this year and am having trouble with the 1St to 2nd Shift. Appt at dealer on this Friday 6 nov 09. Will let you all know the results.

I got a skip shift eliminator but then started shift 1 to 4 on purpose. Gas mileage went up by about 2 miles per gallon. Glad I have the option to go 1 to 2, but I usually end up going 1 to 4 on purpose now (unless i'm showing off)

Thanks.

Mine was built week of Sept 14th and has nearly 800 miles on the clock now.
I keep telling myself that it must just be me - although I have driven several hundreds of thousands of miles on stickshift cars. I will be interested in what they say

Was at Dealer today and the Technician took iot for a ride and it did it. So now he is calling the Engineers to see what the problem is or the fix. Where do you find the Skip Shift Eliminators at, and how much are they?

don't shift from 1-2 until your over 22mph and it won't ever be an issue. If this is the problem your talking about. If your issue is well above this mph then I don't know what to tell you.
