Why did you buy your Camaro in AUTO/Manual?

I bought mine in auto
But now as I look back on it.. It seems i've lost alot of speed.. etc etc etc.. but I want to race but afraid i'll get owned by someone in manual.

Your reason?

I've driven an automatic for the last 8 years. It never fails to piss me off when it decides not to change gears. I love having the pedal to the medal and watching the thing creep. Wait, I don't.

I decided to get the manual to avoid that, I want the control. Plus, something feels wrong about having a sports car and not having a manual.

I hope y'all post some good stuff because I can't decide which to get. Hate the idea of all that shifting, but I like the exhaust and road feel of the M6 better.

easy.......I have little or no feeling in my left leg, it all works, just not any real feeling.....so I use my left leg/foot for breaking so I can FEEL the pressure as its applied to the break. If I had to use my left foot/leg for the break......well it wouldn't be good. Not to mention I have the same problem with my right hand/arm.....thus using the shifter wouldn't be very easy, I would need to LOOK at it to use it. Its a very weird feeling, but have had to deal with it for the last 5 years. NOT TO MENTION, with todays Automatics......they are acutally faster, so I am told, and using it in MANUAL OR SPORT MODE is a kick too.

My 97 SS was a 6 speed, and I loved it. Then some clown decided to back into it at a 3 way stop and I ended up trading it in after some piss poor repairs. I'd loved the Solstice since I first saw one, and managed to get a deal on an '07 GXP last January, only problem was it was automatic (only 2,200 miles on it tho).
I figured that given the rather cramped cockpit (I'm 6'2", the car is more fun with the top down!) I wouldn't miss it too much. But I was wrong. The delay between it hesitating to find a gear and the turbo lag make it a lot less 'fun' than the SS was. I miss the bottom end torque, and especially knowing that when I got on it out of a corner I wasn't going to wait 1...2...3... for the right gear and the power to come online.
I'm hoping to get an SS this fall again, but I'd like to hear from the automatic owners here (especially those that consider themselves proficient with a stick) how it works coming out of corner, or when you decide to punch it.
How does the downshifting work? If I'm entering a corner and want to make sure the car is in 2nd before I get into the gas, can I 'manually' get the automatic into the gear I want before I get on the gas? My understanding is the auto will rev-match to smoothly downshift, but I'd love to hear opinions about how well it works.

This is the umpteenth post on the subject. It usually gets dumbed down really quick by some knuckle draggers and becomes one hell of a pissing match.

dont have mine yet, but it will be a manual, as it was said earlier, i really hate it when the tranny wont change gears. Plus a manual gives so much more control, an auto cant tell that i have a turn coming up...

Have driven manuals all my life and prefer them. Autos are great for drag racing though.

I have had plenty of both. I test drove the LS3, it was great fun. Then I drove the L99 with the paddle shifters...now this is a new fun! Ease and control with instant shifts, or cruise and forget it. It struck me as both of best worlds so I went for it.

Oh hush! A different group of people can't have the same thread conversation because another group discussed it two months ago? If that were the case, there wouldn't be any new threads here.

New threads are fine, but it is recommended that users search for old topics and post in them rather than creating a new thread.

I love the control of the manual, much more engaging to me. Besides, who knows how much longer these will be around. The dual clutch semiautomatics are the way of the future. Our kids will be like "wow, you used to drive a manual transmission?" :emoticon7:

I haven't got to order one yet, but it will be a manual. The control of the car is much better and much more fun.

I think it is hilarious that people are not commenting on the OP's reason for getting an
automatic.

Edit: Never mind it got censored.

I learned on an auto, everything I've owned excluding motorcycles has been auto, and getting used to a manual in a $32000 car in a town as hilly as Austin didn't sound like a good idea.

we bought ours in an automatic because the wife couldnt push the clutch all the way in (almost, but not to the floor). and because she wasnt really interested in learning to drive a manual everyday. it sux cuz i really wanted the extra 26hp!
