Porsche Panamera Turbo. . .

Ok this isn't really a comparison unfortunately we would get our as*es handed to us!

But I found this interesting. . .

Everyone likes to complain how heavy the Camaro is but check this out the Porsche:

Weight 4,800lbs (1,000 more than Camaro)

Hp 500 @ 6000rpm
TQ 516 @ 2250-4500rpm

0-60 3.4sec

1/4 mile 11.7

So I guess Im trying to say, who cares how much the car weighs just add some more power. . .(and in porsches case 4wd and an insane 7 speed tranny)

Just saw this in a magazine and thought I would share. . . before anyone starts going crazy let me just say I would never buy a porsche! I love my american cars. . .

Weight is not everything. It is all in the ratios. Power-weight number are more useful than power or weight alone.

That car is ugly as sin....sorry but it is. Most everything from Porsche has a simple beauty...this does not in my opinion.

Porsche

4,800/500 = 9.6lbs/hp

4,800/516 = 9.3lbs/tq

Camaro

3900/426= 9.2lb/hp

3900/420= 9.3lb/tq

Looks like the Camaro has a better ratio too. I wonder how hard it would be to fit the paneramas transmisson and 4wd setup under my Camaro J/K.

Have to admit they have a well engineered drivetrain to get that power to the ground. . . as it should for $150,000

There is a reason why you pay more for a Porsche.

What I've been saying for....ever.

At some point...weight catches up with you...for example...make a suburban handle like a Camaro, or that Porche....but that's for another time -- point is; 300 lbs is NOT going to make or break a car.

It will if it has the same horsepower as a lighter car.

I'm withholding all opinions until I see it in person. The commercial where you see it moving makes it look pretty good- but then you realize how ginormous it is compared to the other Porsches there with it. Static pictures are kind of iffy. No doubt the performance is there. The Speed channel test drive was almost an infomercial- but it still was pretty impressive.

Yeah, the panamera may do a lot of things well, but it looks like hell. It looks like all the real Porsches got together and kicked its a$$ for ruining the name. At least the cayenne looks decent for what it is, but the panamera is an abomination.

bingo....I was hoping somebody would fall into this....there are.....other variables.

A sucky car that weighs 2000 lbs isn't going to handle NEAR as well as a well-engineered 4500lb car....ditto for HP, ditto for brakes, etc, etc, etc...I, personally consider ~500 lbs to be the window in which two cars can still perform similarly...anything more than that will likely require a major investment to overcome the weight disability....

Obviously a terribly engineered car isn't going to handle better than a very good engineered car. That's giving a way too extreme argument... I've heard that every 100 lbs is a tenth of a second . These handling variable's you speak of are meaningless since I was talking about straight line performance. The only things that would matter are HP, Torque, and Traction. All three of these are very close, with the Challenger weighing more.

Oh, see -- when I speak of weight, I'm in terms of handling and overall performance...I'm not a quarter-mile guy...

In that sense, then yes -- you're right. You get those three things nailed down, you're golden. And if just one of them changes, so will the end result. That said, you can make up for a tenth (in wieght) with better tires...more hp...etc , etc.

Oh I have no idea how the extra weight would help/hurt on a road course. I still think it would be a disadvantage though... You'd still have to factor in the acceleration loss and possibly the extra weight it throws around might cause it to have lower turning capabilities?

9ff Porsche Panamera Turbo looks

German tuner 9ff has released these pics of its Porsche Panamera Turbo Tuning, with an even more extreme version of an already-fast Porsche. Horse power versions come in 550 hp (760 Nm of torque), 600 hp (800 Nm) and 650 hp (850 Nm).

Features include new turbo charging and exhaust system and some aesthetic touch-ups, like them or not. 22-inch alloy wheels complete the package
