Most people who do LS1 swaps just use the tremec 6-speed thats already behind the LS1 (they pull them from wrecked cars) - I'm relatively certain that the t-5 from the third gens will NOT mount to a stock LS1. At least not without a different bellhousing/clutch/etc.

I could be wrong though - somebody else should weigh in on this.

no thirdgen tranny (700r4, t5) will bolt up to an ls1. I THINK the lt1 because they left the block pattern the same... that is why people who want a t56 use 93-97 trans to put into a 3rd gen. For an ls1 you need an adapter plate, imo its easier to just get one from an lt1

There's a crank spacer (or block spacer, however you want to call it) that will allow you to use an older SBC style trans with an LS1. I'm not sure what would need to be done with the bellhousing though, I'd imagine you would have to swap it out with a T56 housing?

not to mention... the t5 will never hold up with a ls1 in front of it. The 700r4 might take the abuse for a little while but i doubt it, well without some work.
