Removing Resonator on L99?

I am not looking at doing this now, to tight on funds but down the road. So in my case of having the GMPP axle back for the L99. You had to check LS3 or L99 when ordering, is there any way of removing the big butt resonator and putting and X-Pipe or something else in there to make the car sound meaner but not have AFM drone issues.

Anybody done such a thing?

My wife hates the fact is I research everything all the time. Should of seen it when we moved into a house with septic system. 2 months of reading on them. That houses septic sucked but I fixed it. Our latest home in Alabama has a good well thought out one.

I would say removing it is just going to amplify the noise even more. With just muffler deletes and dynomaxx headers I had AFM tuned out because it sounded like a ricer in 4 cyl mode. In fact Im going to say an x-pipe will definately make it louder or more noticable. Man I cant wait to save up some pennies to get those lifters out of there.

I have a customer who removed resonator, put X-pipes and magflo exhaust. You can definately tell the difference in driving it. No problems with it either. Cost him like $600 dollars

I honestly didn't notice any difference.. He just put the car on consignment. He got tired of black and wants a white one now. Got to drive it yesterday, and noticed alot more power, but didn't notice any problems with the AFM. He had been talking about disabling the AFM. Didn't even think about that till you asked.. I'll call and see if he did.

Just got off phone with him, and he said he did nothing with the AFM. So AFM is still active, and it has x-pipes and the mag flo's. Sounds great.

Some people don't seem to notice the AFM ( I wish I was one of those ). But if you already hear the difference and it annoys you .... I wouldn't remove the center resonator unless you tune the AFM out.
I think the large resonator is a small h-pipe, straight thru design with holes in the pipe, much like the peices of pipe in the rear mufflers. I think a x-pipe like magna flows x-pipe muffler would be a great replacement.......... but at the cost of adding the AFM drone.

I did the trashcan delete and the AFM was driving me nuts. Just put on a Solo MachX exhaust this weekend and the AFM Drone is deminished to to the point it is unnoticable.

Start up and rev video.

I currently have the SLP LMII axle back (small mufflers) and my wife loves the sound .....but for me the AFM is too noticable. Glad to hear you enjoy the Solo MachX.
