2" Headers Vs 1 7/8" Headers...Your Opinions PLEASE!!!!!
I am currently in the process of purchasing an exhaust system for my Baby. I want to get this right the first time. I have the choice between 2" Long Tube headers or 1 7/8" long tube headers. Both are exactly the same price and fitment of each is not a problem.
What are the advantages or disadvantages please???? ![]() My future mods, besides exhaust and CAI, may include a cam and super charger or maybe even a pro charger. I'm under the impression that the bigger the tubes the more air pushed out.....and You know the rest. Probably no big difference between the two but wanted to solicit several opinions before I pull the trigger. Your advice is very much appreciated. __________________________________________________ ___________ 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS LS3 SIM W/ Blk Hockey and Hood Stripes & Blk Int -1000 July 23rd -Initial Order placed - Reeder Chevrolet Knoxville, TN -1100 July 23rd - Order Submitted by dealer (GM W/B Order # NMQQ3N) -2000 Sept 24th- Order Accepted by GM (TPW 10/26) -2500 Sept 30th- Order Preferenced -3000 Sept 30th- Order Accepted by Production Control -3100 Oct 13th - Order Available to Sequence -3300 Oct 13th- Scheduled for Production -3400 Oct 24th- Order Broadcast -3800 Oct 31st- “Sinister” is BORN on “HALLOWEEN” 2G1FT1EW3A9162029 |

1 7/8th will be fine for you. Dyno's have shown that for NA engines 1 3/4 is best, but since you're going to be pushing more air through I'd go with 1 7/8th headers. Just remember that with boost applied you really won't get much hp out of headers, but your overall system will become more efficient. So it really doesn't matter too much. Just my 2 cents

1 3/4 is all you need. With a 4000lb car you dont want big tube headers to take away the the low end torque.

I think it really comes down to where you want your power to be. The bigger the primary, the higher up in the rpm range your power will be. Of course, if you have too small a diameter on any part of your exhaust, you'll lose power anyway. Haven't seen a definitive dyno to prove where that cutoff is, but I suspect, you'd want 1 7/8 headers just to be sure.

Definitely not 1 3/4. I would go 1 7/8 min. 2" are faily large and really need to consider what HP level you plan to achieve. Price difference is really negligible between them as well. Heck the 1 3/4 is the same as the 1 7/8 with ARH (American Racing Headers).
Oh and 1 7/8 actually dyno'ed better over 1 3/4 hp and tq on a stock LS3 motor. Call Nick @ ARH youself for the facts when choosing header size. Literally skip 1 3/4 period imo. I have a set of ARH 1 7/8 with high flow cats and intermediate pipe ready to ship. PM for pricing. Last edited by 2Tightwads; 11-16-2009 at 07:50 PM. |

So.... Are the 2" headers actually not a good choice whether or not I eventually add a cam and Or supercharger?? I guess I just remember the old days when "big tube headers" were the $#!t. Also kinda cool telling my mustang buddies they are 2" headers but not at the expense of robbing my power.

The smaller 6.2 liter motor will do very well on the 1.75" headers. |

I was told today (as I to am shopping for a full exhaust) that if I was doing an exhaust and CAI, that the 1 7/8 would be fine. However if a Supercharger was in the future possibly then I would want the 2.....interesting enough is that the price of the 1 7/8 and 2 exhaust was the same...so go figure.
This thread may help me shed some light on the same question. However at this point if it were me, I would go 2 inch

Tell you what call god himself (Nick @ ARH) and ask him for his opinion, American Racing Headers 631-608-1986. Looks like everyone is taking advice as hearsay...I'm repeating what every manufacturer of headers for the 2010 Camaro has told me so far... ARH, Kooks, Dynatech, Ect. have told me the below from their own extensive testing. 1 7/8 is ALL you need sir. 2" is for practically RACE ONLY 900HP+.

Thanks Guys.lEo let me get this straight. It Sounds like it really doesn't make a difference between the 1 7/8" headers or the 2" headers unless I plan on approaching the 900 hp range ( uhhhh yeah!!! I can't even put together a plan for exhaust) Sounds like the 2" are more for "big baller" bragging rights in the neighborhood and won't really help or hurt matters.

If your going to be adding a supercharger in the near future and only running around 8 to 10 lbs of boost 1 7/8 headers would be efficient enough. 2 inch headers do well if your making lots of power. The smaller the header size the better the low end torque. Thats why shorty style headers are nice for low end power.

ARH was my choice but Stainless Works is pretty much what I have decided on. I finally got to hear them in person on Sunday and the sound (especially under WOT) is unexplainable. Plus Fit and Finish is second to none, no to mention that Bill is a Helluva nice guy to deal with. I just couldn't decide on 2" or 1 7/8" LT Headers.

I will just repeat what others have said...
Yes 1 7/8 will be the way to go. Yo only 2 inch in HIGH HP levels... I will be producing 800-900 Flywheel HP this winter, and I will also be sticking with the 1 7/8. |

Guys we're getting ready to test just about every brand of headers we can on the same car, the same day. I don't have any 2" header setups, but if someone wants to loan me their set I can test them & send them back real quick!!
