Now the GT500 SuperSnake and GT500 KR may still be in production? I don't know but those cars are $75K+ and up!

Also , I mean c'mon, did you guys really think that GM was making a Camaro Z28 that would outpower a more expensive Vette base vette!?
I never for one bit thought GM would make a 500Hp+ Z28....................
The best you will get is a SS model with almost as much HP as a Base Vette!
nope 2009 GT500's are in the run now. being built till jan 2009 then the new 2010 GT500 will come into play. the supersnake is a package you get thru shelby autos after you buy a gt500 and the KR is also being built for 2009 again, so 2 yr run of kr's.

It has to be.

Let me tell you this. Gas prices aren't the reason the Z28 isn't coming out. The type of person that buys the Z28 or GT500 or KR or Viper or GTR doesn't care if gas is $8 a gallon because the car isn't going to be a commuter.

GM will only be able to build so many of these cars in a given year and I'm sure they're going to have there hands full for the first 2 to 3 years after the first one hits the street. I'll bet the SS with Launch control will post as good of a number or better in the quarter mile as the GT500...therefore, why show their hand now. Wait for the other manufacturers to come back, then raise the bar again with a car that was developed 3 YEARS ago. No added cost for GM at that point.

All that being said, I won't be buying one until they do. They'll get my money, but only after their manufacturing capacity can support it. I WOULD have bought one now (even at $38K) because you never loose your money if you don't sell it.

The plus side is the aftermarket is thoroughly ready to release parts for the car. I work at Wiseco Piston and expected a variant of the LS3 for the base car...so I just so happen to have made pistons for it late last year. Same things for cams, aftermarket heads, and 350cfm CNC programs for the LS3 heads. As long as GM hasn't gone with Direct injection on it, the aftermarket will be able to come up with a programmer. 450 to 500whp is pretty easy to achieve with the engine even naturally aspirated. 600whp with a stock engine and a a blower is even easier.

The problem I've got now is I've got to find an intermediate car. Something I can have paid off by the time the Z28 does come out. Maybe a Smart car to weather the gas prices.

Stop speculating, Scott already laid this to rest. Can we please just get Scott's quote as the last post in the thread and a mod lock? This will never end because most drama queens and trolls want to post instead of read what has been discussed.

times change bro, look at the 60's back then chevy didnt care which car had more hp, they cared about stomping the immediate competition. in camaro's case mustang. thats all they cared about. now might be a dad harder as the vette is the halo car, but i still think gm might out do the base vette, maybe the ZO6. THe new CTS-V isnt out yet is it? scheduled some time in 09 right? hmm maybe the Z/28 and CTS-V will debut at the same time

A lot of passion
A lot of nonsense
A lot of valid points

It comes down to 4 basic choices
Buy now
Continue to wait
Modify
Go to the competition

just so another Z28 thread will be created by a newbie or someone else. . .it doesn't matter. there will always be speculation of a z28 until it's confirmed by gm.

All I'm going to say is Keep Faith.

My theory is that they are just waiting for a few years so they can see what Camaro sales and the market look like. And also to tweak the Z28 to determine where it will fit in within the Chevy lineup (can't step on the mighty vette's toes) and against it's main competitors.

I disagree...

High Performance - 638hp
Fuel Sucking - 14 city/20 highway
Low Volume - 2000 units per year

And it arrives this summer starting at $105,000. It's called the ZR1.

Exactly, the development dollars have ALREADY BEEN spent on the Z28...why wait except for the reason I gave above. Sorry to say it, but stretching out the excitement over the next several years is the best business decision.

Did you guys notice there were only 40ish people logged into the GM next chat? I would take that to mean the number of rabid Z28 option enthusiasts like myself to be relatively low. The hard core tech questions I interjected into the GM next chat weren't used, but *may* be answered later....we'll see. So,the pole numbers went from 45/55 to less than 15% in a hurry. For now, it seems those of us to the far right of the performance bellcurve are a small minority.

This is the Chevrolet hierarchy.

• LS9 Corvette ZR1
• (550-hp Camaro Z28 would go here)
• LS7 Corvette Z06
• LS3 Corvette
• LS3, L99 Camaro SS

A Z28 as this site has described—a 520-550 horsepower super beast—would take a slot above the Corvette. GM has done this before, so that's okay. The problem is that the Camaro SS is already so close in horsepower to the Corvette that it doesn't make sense to slap on 30 horsepower and call it a Z28. If you want a supercharged beast for a Z28, like the speculated versions discussed on this site, we would need to place the Camaro Z28 above the Corvette Z06. That violates the chain of command at Chevrolet. Had the SS been released with less horsepower, GM would have more wiggle room. There just isn't a place for the Z28. If this Camaro was labeled 1LE or ZL1, it might make more sense to make one that beats the Z06, but that isn't what you guys are seeking.

I will respectfully disagree. to me the Z28 falls in line with the Z06 and the ZR1 naming. so why not? and like as been brought up to me maybe it will be an option we can select when ordering but it's not named Z28. but it's an upgraded suspension and power package. sorta like a track pack.

All I want to know is will there be a version out that is similar to the concept as far as the width on the backend or is this slimmed down version what it is across all the versions.

The car will not get widened...........

Widening a car would raise the cost exponentially. GM would have to make different panels and a different suspension. Additionally, all of the mounts would have to be extended. It would be astronomically inefficient for GM.

Get a wide body kit if you really want a wider car.

What do you mean by 'punish'? If you mean in terms of performance -- nothing could be further from the truth -- I think you'll be surprised that that the manual and automatics are nearly identical in terms of performance.
