Will Hurst shifter rod mount to stock linkage?

I've performed a search and could not find an answer to my question. I have purchased the Hurst for my SS, and have a question for you guys who have done the install.

If I just wanted the look of the Hurst lever and knob, can it bolt directly to the stock lower stub? Is there even a stock lower stub, or is it all one piece? I know I could take the trim off and find out for myself, but was hoping for some input from those who have already done it.

Thanks in advance.

It will not. See my picture below. On the left is the stock linkage. It's a solid piece. On the right is the optional upper shaft that's included with the Hurst kit if you want to use the stock knob.

Great question and excellent response! I was wondering the same thing myself. Glad to find the answer and a picture too.
