First oil change = 1.4 more MPG
Got my first oil change at 2200 miles. Gave in to all the peer pressure around here, I guess. Stayed with Mobil 1 and AC Delco filter.
My driving is always the same, I get on it pretty regularly from stops and merging onto the freeway. I have averaged 16.2 MPG per the computer since new, and reset on most fillups. After the oil change, I reset again. I have gone through most of a tank of fuel, and I have 17.6 MPG on the computer. I'm convinced that resetting the oil change reminder changes some settings because the car thinks that the "break-in" is over. |

Not any relation to that oil/reset. It's more likely that you 'thinking' about getting better gas milage made you 'act' to get better gas milage (slower, nicer, steadier). It's a placebo effect! But, whatever it takes... personally I am trying to get WORSE gas milage as it tells me that I am using each and every horsepower!

Changed my oil at 2,155 and I think I'm getting 2 MPG better now.
24 avg 60/40 driving.

the oil in the car is mobil 1 5w-30 syn, with ac delco filter. if thats what was put back in, it cant really effect the economy or efficiency of the engine (unless of course it was very old and broken down oil). and there is nothing that changes in any of the software for "break in" or early mileage.

NOT Placebo.
Now I'm at 17.8 with the last tank, and this includes a few 1/4 mile runs at the track. I have noticed the AFM comes on MUCH more frequently since i reset the oil percentage meter. Personally, I think the AFM is set to come on minimally until you get the first oil change and reset the oil meter, probably so as to get even cylinder wear during break-in. |
