Gas Cap Placement

Man I wish they would have left the gas cap on top....that would have been so sweet.....it was something that was not only eye-catching... but unique....what do you guys think? I wonder why they didnt leave it there? Does anyone know?

It would have been sweet just like them leaving the mid section of the car alone instead of making wider and loosing that coke bottle look. Ugh they ruined my car!

But maybe they'll bend over backwards and make a special one just for someone, if one complains enough...

Wait they changed the midsection of the car? I never noticed...

Anyway, yes, the Camaro's platform (modified Zeta) won't allow for the a top-of-the-fender gas cap placement and have it meet safety requirements. It did look great, but it just couldn't be done.

it's not on the left it's on the right.
probably also a cost cutting measure, those fancy chrome gas caps would be expensive to produce compared to the little plastic door...

Sheesh; do you have anything positive to say about this car? IMHO, the posts I've read lately are mostly dark on the car. If you don't like it so much, perhaps there is and older model you should consider.

I think it said the chrome gas cap thingy would be available as an accessory through GMPP.

I love the chrome gas cap and hope to get the accessory. I would have loved the cap being on top, but I certainly understand why it was moved.

that and its a safety hazard as this will be a widely sold car (and there will be morons who buy this car) having it on the top like that could lead to gas pooling on the back of the car instead of draining down. then while you pull out of the gas station, you light a smoke... flick the ash.. and boom. lol

maybe he's just pointing out things that stick out to him. there are plenty of things i dont like about the car (like the lack of a Z28 at this time...lol), and ive expressed my opinions about them. nobody said a word to me.... then again, i expressed my opinions mostly before the official specs were released, and before we got this massive flood of 15 post counters.

<-- A joke.

If they can't put the actual gas cap location on the back, top drivers side, they could at least put the cap there and put the gas intake behind the rear plate like the vette. It's actually been talked about quite a bit.

Don't throw anything at me, but why exactly is it a safety concern? What makes the side safer than the top?

another reason for not having it on top of the fender is The imbeciles that will purchase the car and will dribble gas on the fender, then do a warranty claim when their paint gets eaten up. Or the ones who will leave a little gas sitting next to the fill point, get in the car and light the cigarette, then flick it out the window down the road only to go BOOM when it lands on the fender lit.

It looked nice on top like the concept, but to be honest I think I prefer it on the passenger side (though I'd rather it was the drivers side) than on top. Mainly so the worry of gas getting on the car is gone.

Had it stayed on the top of the fender I would have opted for the chrome gas cap, but when on the side of the car I think the chrome just breaks up the smooth lines of a car and sticks out like a sore thumb.

I think the chrome would look nice on top, as well. I'm concerned that it will look like a riced out Eclipse or something with the chrome on the side. I don't think that's an option GMPP should pursue.

It that person can't figure how to put a gas cap back on, AND smokes in his/her Camaro.....maybe BOOM is a .....wait....I wouldn't want that for the car....
