Anyone heard of a "market adjustment" price

hey guys,

A dealer told me that there is a "market adjustment" from GM and that all cars are getting marked up 5k. I think its complete crap but im curious to see if any of you got the same from any of your dealers.

Thanks

Its crap..I walked out when I heard this and as soon as I got in my car to leave the dealer ran after me and told me he can waive it. Which to me means they were looking for a x-mas gift. Shop around.

That is NOT from GM, it is that dealer that is charging that! Find another dealer!

There are plenty of dealers giving various discounts now. Look around.

The above posters are correct. Market adjustment is also known as your dealer markup.

It's not from GM and is pure profit for the dealer.

Just shop around, some dealers go for volume and sell at or below MSRP while some others go for a handful of suckers at massive markups.

Lots of people were finding MSRP dealers last November when they were pre-ordering (myself included) you'd think there would be even more out there now.............

Some dealers around here were trying to pull that sh*t. The value of a product is what someone is willing to pay for it. If you are willing and have the five gees then that is the value. I am not willing and if I added the five gees to Deval Patrick's 6.25% sales tax and the 2.5% excise tax that we pay in Taxachusetts my SS would have been out of my price range. Remember this, when you are trading it in or selling it a couple of years from now, that five gees will be gone forever. if you look around, you can find one for MSRP or less. Tell the dealer to keep his overpriced car.

Every Chevy dealer in the Boston area has SS's and LT's in their showrooms. Sport and muscle cars are not big sellers during New England winters. i am sure that some good deals can be had in my area.

Look around, there's plenty of Dealers out there, and also Dealers on this Site, who will sell at, or below, MSRP.

Market adjustments are BS
walk out the door, and go to the next dealer up the street, or in the next city. shouldn't take you too long to find a reputable dealer who won't charge you this markup. i wouldn't recommend paying 5k extra that you really don't need to.

My wife and I got up and flat walked out when a dealer slid a piece of paper saying 44k+ to us on a used 2SS. Left a real bad taste in our mouths. Put the car off a couple of months because of it. When I finally realized how bad she still wanted one I found a dealer to order me exactly what she wanted at MSRP.

I've got one even better than that. I live in Virginia Beach where one of the largest Navy Jet bases is located called Oceana Naval air station. The whole area including Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News is called the "Tidewater" area. We have a lot of jets flying around. Some of the dealers are adding what they call "Tidewater paint package". They say this will protect the paint from jet fuel. The problem is the price varies from vehicle to vehicle. $1500 on a Cobalt to $4000 on a Corvette.

Be lucky you don't pay 15% in taxes on yours. That is how much I am paying. Not to mention tire tax, gas guzzler tax (all cars under 35 mpg), A/C tax,...

Back in 2000 was a dealer here that put a AMV (Adjusted Market Value) sticker on every car, I asked the salesman what did that mean since none of the other dealers charged that.. at first he told me that that is what the car should sell for in this area.. but when I pinned him down he said they added that so they could give you a larger trade in value for your car.. so I said so if you told me you would give me $2000 in trade for my car, I could take that $2000 AMV markup off and you would be getting my car for free?... he said "Yeah"...

By the way that dealer does not sell Chevys any more.. but he does sell Fords, Chrysler products, and Kias, and STILL uses the AMV markups on all his cars.

I can't believe after all this time dealers are STILL pulling that crap.

And they blame it on GM because most people don't know any better and it keeps them out of an arguement over the price with the customer. Sad....

Several years ago, I was looking for a used Corvatte. I went to a place in Manchester NH that had many used Vettes and 60's muscle cars. None of them had stickers on the windows. I asked about one of them and the salesman told me the price. I pointed to another one and asked the price. He said "How much are you looking to spend"? I walked out on him. The salesman's job is to get as much money out of you as you will let him. your job is to find his minimum price. He does this daily and is better at it than you are. Now is the time to buy Camaros and Vettes if you live in the snow belt. If they have them on the lot, they know that they are stuck with them until spring. Therefore I would start laughing and walking away from any salesman trying to get above MSRP. That sh*t might have worked last April when they first came out, but there is no shortage now and the dealers that said that these would be "limited production" were the biggest liars of all. what are we up to now, sevety thousand or so?

Yeah, mine was 69684, I believe. Limited Production my arse! They got a money maker and they're gonna run with it. And I don't blame em. Just makes good business sense.
