ice storm 1.... Camaro 0

yea so i was making a turn and before i knew it my car was fishtailing, did almost a complete 360, and i smacked right into a sign. I'm fine, and the only damage appears to be the driver side fender and the associated plastic wheel well crap underneath. roads are a sheet of ice, accidents are everywhere, I was out in it just as it was starting, so it caught me (and everyone) by suprise.

hoping this wont cost an arm and a leg...

Oh man. Consider investing in some cheap 18" wheels and snow/ice tires or a cheap "winter beater" car. Glad your safe though.

So, how are those stock SUMMER tires in the winter?
Guess now you know... and now maybe everybody can learn from this, get proper tires for the conditions, and we won't have anybody's beautiful Camaros smashed up.

Sorry for your accident. But are you going to get different tires now?

Not too bad. I know it tears your heart apart seeing that damage. But, at least it WILL be repairable to like new and all will be okay.

Can you link this picture in all the threads about "I can drive this car in the winter" please?

Sucks that you got damage, but you guys are getting what's coming, trying to keep horsepower on the ground in SNOW on SUMMER tires.

Hopefully this can help some others before it's too late

The fender's $135, the emblem is $12, and the fender liner is $70 something. Whole mess shouldn't be more than $400, sorry to hear about that.

atleast your not hurt and the damage is low. yeah those pirellis suck even in dry cold days.
I wouldnt use the camaro in winter period even if i had winter tires, the chances of someone else hitting you is VERY HIGH.

Man, that sucks!! Glad you're fine.
So, was it icy or just wet out? Your thread states it was icy. (If that was the case, nothing winter tires nor a winter car would have done to prevent that!!)

I'm probably in the same area at the OP...it was a mess. I was out when it just started to rain (so nobody expected the ice)...it was freezing when it hit the roads (it's been really cold here the last few days). After the roads were freezing over, the rain was making them even more slippery. People were just pulling over because they couldn't go anywhere, roads were closed...a total mess.

I was in my trailblazer and sliding all over the place (every time I tried to stop), so winter tires probably wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

I too am sorry to hear about your trouble, and glad you are OK. I just don't want anybody blaming this car. I've driven on snow and ice the last three days without any probs, I do have P Ice and Snow tires. In fact I just about ran over a Toyota Tundra today that was sliding all over the road.

That SUCKS!

But now everyone who flamed us guys for storing our 5th Gens for the winter have a nice mental image for reference every time they think about driving out in the snow & ice.

the rain had just started and i just went down the block for some food, and my driveway was ice-free so i figured its ok, i wasn't going fast at all, i just slowed down to bear right onto a side street and it went flying. that street was a skating rink. I guess i could have been more careful but whatever, it happens. its my first RWD. I'm hoping to not have to use insurance or my rates will go up. hoping the repair wont exceed $2000 but i'm gonna do whatever it takes to get it brand new again.

it looks like it will need a new driver fender, and front bumper (just the underside is cracked and messed up, but its all one piece) the body shop is going to cut me a deal, since my brother knows the owner.

it would have happened wheter it had bald tires or tank treads. ice is ice.
