I haven't sat in one ( ), but GM's on a soft-touch plastic spree right now, so I'm kinda guessing there will be a lot of soft-touch plastic.

My guess would be that the dash itself is soft-touch. But the lighted portion almost definitely has to be a clear acrylic to allow the light through. Hence it will probably be hard.

Personally I don't care if a cars interior/dash is hard or soft. I'm not sleeping on it or even rarely touching anything other than the wheel and control knobs.

Yes but soft touch plastics rattle and creak less. The more it feels like rubber, the more it acts like rubber.

am i reading this correctly?!? according to the salespersons reference guide, the LT-adds 18 or 19 inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, 6-way power driver's seat, "INTERIOR AMBIENT LIGHTING" and more. does that mean the SS will have all this, plus it's added features? and does that mean the ambient lighting is standard so i don't need to get leather seats for it? should i not be so excited about what i'm reading?

Would love red interior lighting, but of the two available choices blue would probably be my preferred color.

The inferno accent lighting package also includes orange stitching EVERYWHERE, not sure if I would like that???

I like the blue, it looks clean and cool.

I for one, am very partial to having a dash with soft plastic. It feels better (whether or not you live in or sleep inhe car) than hard plastic. It gives the car a better ambience of quality than does hard plastics.

I agree also, that the hard plastics tend to squeek and rattle moe.

Yes tehre are portions of the dash which will be hard , most notably the instrument surrounds. That goes without saying.

Just a personal preference for me. Is it a deal breaker? I can't say right now.

As I have said many times, and apparently no one listens or believes me, you dont need to have leather interior to get the ambient lighting. IT COMES WITH THE LT.

It's not that people don't listen or believe you, it's just that there is conflicting information that supports both views.

From a Q&A session with Cheryl Pilcher, Camaro Product Manager:

CP: "One of the really cool things on the interior is, when you start the car, the sequence of lighting and the instrument cluster gauges are all illuminated in a cool kind of a way. There is a light ring that goes around the actual tachometer and speedometer. Additionally, on cars with a leather interior, there is what we call a two-inch ambient lighting LED pipe that goes across the instrument panel and then also goes into the door trim on each side. It's very similar to what was in the concept car. It will have ice blue lighting, and we have a special inferno orange accent package with orange seat inserts and orange-red ambient light. Through GM accessories dealers, you will also be able to get different colored accessory pieces. Also, GM accessories will offer 21-inch wheels in two different looks. They should fit both the V-6 and the V-8 car. More Camaro accessories will be announced during the 2008 SEMA show."

^Right. They said that in order to get the ambient lighting, you needed to get the leather. Beast, can you show us where you saw otherwise? I'm curious.

The Beast can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he is referring to the Trim Levels sidebar on page 2 of the sales person reference guide.

The only problem is that Chevy has a habit of having multiple trim levels in each group, 1LT/2LT. For example, cloth is standard on the LS and 1LT trim levels on the 2008 Malibu. Ultra-lux is standard on the 2LT and two-tone leather appointed is standard on the LTZ. The reference guide mearly says that ambient lighting comes on the LT plus this little way out "and more". That could include the fact that, yes, the interior ambient lighting comes on the LT model (not specifying which) but only the 2LT level which would likely include leather since it is the top trim level for the V6 model. Hence, the "must have leather" to get the cool interior lighting.

Guess we'll all have to wait and see what is actually standard/optional once ordering information is released.

maybe LT2 package has leather included, therefore it will have ambient lighting.

Most likely what will happen with the whole 1LT/2LT mess is that Ultra-Lux cloth will be standard on 1LT with the option to upgrade to leather, and leather will be standard on the 2LT/SS.

why with all the confusion? the guide says one thing about the ambient lighting. cheryl pilcher says another. just make it a separate option and make everybody happy

Both my Sky and HHR have the Soft touch almost rubberlike dashboards... I really like them... of course they both have some hard plastic inserts, as will the Camaro.

I believe it was stated somewhere that it is dimmable. So I'd assume yes.

I think so ~75% sure. But it could be something like replacing blue with red instead of adding a new colour.

Indeed, I would have to say based on some pre-pro pics that there appears to be a good mix of blue/red in the mid console and controls. Maybe a red interior ambient might not be bad if you can dim the level..

I really like that ice blue though..

As for the previous statements...I believe Fbodfather himself along with the IDL said it will only be offered on leather. It is chance that the spec sheet has some miscommunication, or maybe just an LT2? I hope I can get cloth and ambient, I live in Florida so I am right there with ya ...but I will take the word of Fbodfather until I hear further and see it on a lot.
