“B&M/Hurst American Muscle Car Challenge Track Day" May 17,2010

We at B&M and Hurst are planning a fun-filled track day at a local raceway on May 17 2010. The event will be a high-performance driving education featuring highly qualified instructors in your passenger seat offering invaluable tips on how to drive fast, drive safe, and have the most fun in your late model American Muscle car LEGALLY.

We would like to know how many of you 2010 Camaro owners would be interested in an event like this. Cost to attend the event will be $165 and attendance will be limited to 25 drivers per group. Each group will get 4 run sessions up to 30 minutes each. Event will be held at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.

Helmets of Snell M2000 or SA2000 or later standards are required, rental helmets will be available upon request for an additional fee, since this IS a high speed, high performance driving event. Basic tech inspection will be required.

Respond to this thread if you would be interested in attending such an event, if this all works out well we may continue to hold said event in the future at locations across the country. If there’s enough interest registration will open soon in 2010. Further information will be posted accordingly.”

**UPDATE**
We have secured Auto Club Speedway in Fontana,CA on Monday May 17,2010. We will run the 13 turn 1.45 mile infield course. Price is $165.

Just to stir the pot a little bit and make things fun. You may have noticed the title of the thread was "“B&M/Hurst American Muscle Car Challenge". That means Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustangs/Cobras/GT500s will also be in attendance. Bragging rights are up for grabs. Run groups will be exclusive to vehicle make, but I would really like to have the 2010 Camaro well represented. This event will also feature driving instructors to ensure drivers of all skill levels will be able to navigate the track safely. several vendors will also be on hand to show off their latest and greatest products for the Camaro. I hope to see you all out there.

-Chris

as many of you know Track Days are usually $200-250 for the day. Hurst is looking to provide a track day for their customers and enthusiasts at a great bargain price where instructors will be on hand for the new or novice people and for those that have experience or are capable, you can run on your own with your peers. It could be a great day of fun for all at a bargain price offered by B&M and Hurst. Plus, maybe it will give you an excuse to take a day off from work

OMG interested.

A car club at my school has been to Buttonwillow a few times before, but I have never gone because I don't have any track experience. This would be very helpful!

I'm interested! Wonder if my Snell DOT approved motorcycle helmet qualifies? I guess I'll find out at the performance driving class I'm taking this Saturday at Willow Springs Raceway by FastLane!

Helmet qualifications will differ from club to club and organizers to organizers. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a helmet rule in place. Typical "helmet" rules are 10 years from the certification date, so a Snell SA2000 (SA is the auto application) or M2000 (M is the motorcycle application) helmet should still suffice. But it wouldn't hurt to check with the organizers.

Also, a lot of times organizers will provide helmets for rental. Although not my favorite (since OTHER PEOPLE SWEAT IN THE HELMET BEFORE) it wouldn't hurt to check...Since typical good helmet can run anywhere between $200-$600 for track use. If you're going to go the rental helmet route, it wouldn't hurt to buy a $20-$40 head-sock/balaclava to wear UNDER the rental helmet.

Post #1 updated with the following:

**UPDATE**
We have an option to secure Auto Club Speedway in Fontana,CA on Monday April 19,2010. We have not locked in the date yet, but this is one of our options. If we decide to take this date, we will run the 13 turn 1.45 mile infield course. depending on the number of drivers who confirm, the cost will be between $150and $199. I assure you, it will not be more than this!

If interested, please reply or PM me to be added to the list. We only have 25 Camaro spots available.

Thanks! I already have a head sock I have multiple helmets, but they are all motorcycle helmets - thanks for the clarification on the "M" for motorcycle! I wasn't aware of that! I guess I'll find out in 2 days! I replace my helmet every 5 years or so...

Thanks!
