They aren't Z stripes per say, as I said they were "inspired by them" (GM's words not mine) and not meant to copy them. I'm sure this won't console you, however here is a quote from the official press release on the homepage:

"The design is a modern interpretation of the original rally stripe that debuted on the 1969 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car." Once again their words not mine. I guess they don't want to stay stuck in the past.

And don't worry, in all likelyhood only the three strobe light equipped actual pace cars prepared for the track will have those stripes and they DEFINITELY won't be for sale. The GM reps wouldn't confirm it but there will most likely be 25 Festival cars produced that will have stock paint and appearance (factory stock white stripes) and vinyl decals on the doors much like they did this year that will be sold after the race. Of course there was a lot of hate for the factory "Heritage" stripes since they stopped at the end of the hood. Oh well, just can't please everyone, especially in this picky bunch.

they are closer to shelby stripes than z28 stripes
heritage means "descended from" paying homage to the 1969, or a throw back to the first muscle car era -- has NOTHING to do with a cowl hood or scoop!!! (for those of you who think you are an expert)

Thanks pacecar!

I guess the folks at GM interpret things differently than some here. Personally I'd like it if they did a white/blue scheme again since they've only done that once, but of course I not impartial. Like I said before that car will really stand out on the track in front of those race cars. I'm just VERY happy there will be a Camaro out front again and not a Corvette. I have a few other comments but best to keep them to myself as per forum etiquette.

They must be saving the white with orange stripes for next year's convertible pace car.

You tell them pacecar! Nonetheless to what people say about the stripes it's still a Camaro and I love all Camaros! I'm happy that the it is the pacecar and it represents Camaro owners, while rubbing it in Mustang lovers faces. To all, just be glad they chose the Camaro (our car) as the Pacecar!

Back then it had 3 divisions in the turnsignal cover... which looked totally sweet... VERY throwback. I've been wanting that grille since the first pic I saw. Now they finally get around to making it and all the sudden its down to 2 divisions? I'll still buy it because I think it trounces the stock grille, but why did they have to ruin it? It makes it look cheap IMO. I think this one looks so much better:

Oh and for the record... complete fail on the stripes YET again. Not wide enough, not far enough apart, and no secondary pinstripe alongside the main stripes = garbage
I absolutely agree with everything you said.

The 3 divisions look much less cheap than the 2 divisions over the turnsignals.

And those stripes need to be wider... as is, it actually slims down the body of Camaro, kind of defeating the whole body style. Pinstripes would help here too! I would like to see full lenght wider stripes with pins (black on SIM)

I'd also have my concerns about how the test of time will fade the grill vs. the fascia. (Hopefully neither fade)

In an age of look-alike Camry's, Taurus's and Oldsmobile Bravada pace cars (who's idea was THAT anyway?) I have to celebrate and congratulate GM for this wonderful and beautiful new pace car. Well Done and Thank God for some automotive creativity for a change.

looks pretty good. I prefer the the grill kept grey like on the dale JR sema car as opposed to color-matched. The stripes look pretty good, carrying it over into the interior is a nice touch! Any shots of the rear?

They're Cunningham's stripe design. (credit where credit is due) You can also call them Lemans stripes, or Rally stripes. They've been around for 60 years. Shelby was just copying Cunningham

Not a fan of the stripes over the roof and down the front and real bumpers. Looks like something you would do with a mustang.

I think the heritage grill would look better with an old school SS in the grill instead of the BowTie..

as long as the grill is an option...and not a permanent change since i prefer the look of the original car...and it would be insane to make such a change 1 year in...it would really anger me since i haven't bought a maro yet...although it would make the 2010 camaros some of the most desirable in the future if it was changed after a year

For me I not a big fan of the stripes. I prefer rallye stripes. However that grille when I saw it on the Dale jr car. It really helps bring out 1967-1969 look.

I think it should be on the RS package.. since it does mimic the 69 RS grill somewhat.

Don't like #11 ever! don't like the stripes inside on the dash, don't like orange much either, and its um well its bassakwards from orange on white like the '69. I'm in a foul mood though since I've been working 80 hrs a week for a month, I'll probably like it by race day!

And you could probably get someone to trade you... even if it is a permanent change. Just a guess

BTW: Props to the Camaro5 site! With the wealth of information available here you've kept me well informed. I was explaining the significance of the red SS badge on the back to the '69 pace car owner at the event, and pretty soon I had several people asking me questions. I must of sounded like an authority! Some thought the interior (minus the custom headrest embroidery of course) was a special thing so I explained it was the factory optional Inferno Orange interior available on the 2LT/2SS., and things like that. Someone had thought the exterior color was "Atomic orange". Explained all the L99's have tap shift and AFM, etc.,etc.
