What Brake fluid R U using??

I bought a set of braided stainless lines to replace the rubber hoses on my Camaro. Installing a set of drilled slotted Racing brake rotors.

I figured this might be a good time to upgrade the brake fluid.

Not building a pure track/race car, but will be tracking and drag racing for fun. Not my daily driver.

Input please......................

If you like spending $ buy the Castrol SRF.

I don't like spending money on brake fluid.

Just figured while the system was open, I would upgrade.

What about super blue or Motul RBF600?

I read about shelf life on brake fluid. I don't want something I have to change every six months either.

I like spending it on go fast and stay together stuff!

Motul RBF600 or we also carry 3 different AP Racing fluids.

Don't know if I want full racing fluid.............

On the Motul RBF600 is there a shelflife where you need to change the brake fluid at different intervals like your oil?

Dan, What do you think of Super Blue?? Can you PM me some prices?

I would like better fluid, but don't want to become a bigger slave to this car than I already am.

Thanks for the feedback

Motul RBF 600....I've been running it in my camaro since August,
I love it. But do it right and flush all the factory DOT3 out.

any reason not to go with standard DOT 4 from any local parts store? If you're not spending that much time on a road course track it might not make sense to pay the premium for race fluid. JMHO

Will check out some other DOT 4's at Autozone, just always looking to improve the car where I can.

When you compare DOT4 fluids, look at the WET boiling temp, not the dry.
You will notice that the Motul RBF600 is more than 100 degrees higher than the rest.

At least as long as the oem DOT3 fluid.

Was it about 2.5 liters to change out the fluid?

2 years maximum for any reputable DOT3 / DOT4 / DOT5.1 brake fluid on the street. More often if the car ever sees the track.

If you are committed to flushing the brake fluid anyway, it would be a great time to upgrade to stainless steel braided brake lines. You'd get a huge improvement in pedal feel for a moderate cost.

About 2-1/2 500mL bottles. I always buy 3 bottles so it is fresh every time.

Motul RBF600 is our fluid of choice for street/track cars

-594 degree dry boiling point - 421 wet
The higher dry boiling point helps prevent vapor lock and brake fade under harder braking and demands, but still has good recovery for excellent pedal and brake modulation.

As for fluid life, just inspect the fluid periodically and check the color as the fluid darkens you will want to flush and re fill.

Super Blue is a decent fluid...there are better out there, and some have been mentioned in this thread. Most people like it because the coloring lets them see when the old fluid is flushed out. I don't understand it because you can easily see uncolored fluid turn from dirty/dark to clean/light when you flush it.

Here's the problem(s)....what do you do on the 2nd flush when you're replacing blue fluid with blue fluid? Another potential problem is that the blue dye that's added tends to dye everything...like the plastic reservoir. I would certainly be upset if the brake fluid reservoir on my brand new car was permanently dyed blue.

IMO you're better off going with one of the non-dyed high quality fluids like AP Racing or Motul.

Dan
