how about putting reverse lights by the back license plate?

like this mercury but smaller

would that work better?

That wont work for european and australian markets, thier plates are wide. This was a consideration until they decided that it will be made for export as well.

they would have been the same size right? but put vertically next to the plate correct?

yeh i guess you can't have two separate plants to for different markets

Is it possible to have the reverse lights share a spot with the turn signal lights? I think that would be awesome, if you could somehow have white light coming out of the red light cover thing (or whatever it is called lol). If they could do that I can't think of a reason it would be unsafe or anything, as the only time you use both is during parallel parking, and seriously if someone is reversing towards an open spot right next to them, is there any other reasonable conclusion (no whitty respones to that please lol).
