2010 Camaro 2SS LS3 Performance Upgrade Questions
This is my first post and I’m sorry if this has been covered. For Christmas I asked for upgrades to my 2010 Camaro 2SS. Santa was nice to me so now I have to select what I want to add. I looked on the internet and various magazines. There is a lot of options. If anyone has modified their 2010 Camaro and can share the results I’d love to hear about it. My criteria is that it has to be street legal and i’d prefer that it kept the warranty.
Any help you can offer is appreciated. Semper Fi, Chris |

Thanks. I have $2,000. I'll have to wait on the supercharger. I hate Mustangs and have beaten everyone (mostly 20099 GTs) that was willing to race. My goal is to beat the 500hp Shelby or Cobra version. I looked at 100 different CAI, header, cat back exhaust systems and/or chips/tuners. I like the HPE CAI. Looks badass and claims to give more HP. The long tube headers looked to pack the most punch but I wasn't sure if that made it street illegal.
Any specifics(brand/specs), have you used the. What were/are the results? |

If you are trying to beat those GT 500 'Stangs, it's going to take a lot more than $2000. If you do your own installs, $2K will get you a CAI, headers and maybe a tune....maybe. That's good for around 40-50 hp and that won't get the job done against those 540 hp GTs. Alfie

Chris,
Street legal is going to be your largest hurdle, and it varies across the country on state laws. The biggest hurdles you may have to clear are going to be CARB or emissions based while keeping your car street legal. With this in mind there are products on the market that you can purchase. You can purchase long tube headers, but you will need catted connecting pipes to help try and pass E-Check or sniffer emissions. Long tubes are going to offer your LS3 one of the larger hp - dollar ratios. I would use kooks custom headers they are made in America, a true stainless steel, with one of the most advanced collectors on the market. Then choosing an intake may be difficult from a legality perspective, I am not aware of to many that are carb legal just yet, but I wouldn't put to much concern here. Hennessy's intake looks nice, and I am sure functions well, I prefer the Roto-Fab unit. It has a quality construction, a slightly better performance results from member testing here on this site, and it is more economical. Aside from the intake and long tubes, you may also want to get a new set of spark plugs while your doing the header (NGK TR55) plug wires what offer much lower resistances then stock to allow a better "punch" to the spark plug and increased combustion in the cylinder (MSD wires work well). Finally install a lower temp 160 degree thermostat to allow the cars water temperatures to run cooler and allow more ignition timing for more total output from the engine. All of these modifications should yield you in the 400 plus wheel horsepower range (dynos vary) to 425 whp, with a proper professional tune. Also with all these products you should not have much concern getting your car warranted if problems arise, and your warranty can only be effected with the components your changing by law. My recommendation is to keep your dealer as a good friend . If you have any questions or would like pricing ot to check out video clips and such , please PM me, or visit our web page. Good Luck, |
