Press release: 2010 Camaro Audio by Visteon and Boston Acoustics
Just found this on our Company site.
Visteon and Boston Acoustics to complement 2010 Camaro with sophisticated premium audio VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich., Aug. 12, 2008 — Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) and Boston Acoustics will deliver refined performance in the audio system that accents the redesigned 2010 Chevrolet Camaro – a performance car that embodies the passion of the past and present. The two companies are engineering a premium audio system for the Camaro’s re-launch that is tailored to suit the Camaro’s legacy – starting with precision speaker design. Boston Acoustics, creator of The Boston Sound for home stereo systems, is engineering speakers for the Camaro that are robust enough to handle high power and loud play, yet capable of reproducing the finest acoustic details. Powering those speakers is Visteon’s high performance and state of the art, DSP amplifier. From there, audio integration engineers from Visteon and Boston Acoustics carefully tailor the equalization to the Camaro’s specific interior configurations to accurately reproduce the Boston Sound within the vehicle – transforming the vehicle into an acoustically ideal soundstage. Fabrics, seat placement and instrument panel materials are just a few of the many variables considered when fine-tuning the quality of sound reproduction for the vehicle’s interior. Offered as an option, the premium Boston Acoustics audio system will allow consumers to hearken back to glory days of Motown or experience the pulsation of today’s techno music with digital-signal-processing enhanced sound quality that was unheard of until now. “Visteon is honored to play such an important role in the redesign of a true classic,” said Julie Fream, vice president, Visteon GM customer group. “Using advanced automotive audio technologies, Visteon and Boston Acoustics are creating a polished, dimensional sound stage that will provide as powerful an impact as the re-introduction of this iconic vehicle. This is truly a sports car for the 21st century.” “We are pleased that GM has introduced The Boston Sound to its vehicle in North America, and we know that the Camaro and Boston Acoustics will make beautiful music together,” said Michael J. Maloney, president of D&M Holdings OEM, Global Marketing Group, which includes the Boston Acoustics brand. “As consumers raise their expectations for great sound in their vehicles, Boston Acoustics is ready to meet those demands,” he said. About Visteon Visteon Corporation is a leading global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures innovative climate, interior, electronic and lighting products for vehicle manufacturers, and also provides a range of products and services to aftermarket customers. They should mix a cd that goes with the car and shows off the system, similar to a IMAX sound test.

Does this mean GM is going to put the Owner's Manual information and stereo information on CD like they did in 4th. Gens, LOL. Actually, that would be pretty cool.
Nice find. I can't wait to hear what they come up with

That's a lot of words without saying anything. I'm sure it will sound better than the system in my 4th gen convertible.

As long as I can do a direct connection from my iPod to the stereo via the docking cable, I'm happy. That's half the reason I shelled out the money for an iPod Touch.

Hopefully, it will work with thumbdrives and navigate right from the steering wheel controls. Who wants to shell out of an iPlod when a thumbdrive is so much less apt to attract theives?

I haven't heard many "premium" sound systems, but I can say that the one I paid extra for in my '07 Grand Prix, the Monsoon system, sounds horrendous. It's all bass, muddy bass at that, and absolutely nothing at the top. I'm confident this will surpass my GP's sound.

I have had BA's in my car since I bought it new 9 years ago, and swear by the speakers...... my only concern is, whether the Boston Accoustic system in the Camaro will utilize polypropolyne surrounds or if they will cut costs by using foam surrounds.
Anyone with specific knowledge on the BA system going into the Camaro care to elaborate?

I used to be a salesman at a local chain in north Georgia called HiFi Buys. I don't even think they're around any more, but they specialized in mid- to high- end home theater/audio and car audio equipment, and Boston Acoustics was one of the better brands there. I'd never heard of them until I got that job, and BA's sound is very impressive to say the least!

Bose is CRAP! Bose is no better than any other basic, retail-store, audio equipment brand, except for their marketing department. The Camaro's system will be worlds beyond what Bose could ever offer. Both Boston Acoustics and D&M Holdings (which owns big names like Marantz and Denon) are very respected names in the Home Audio world! |

Interesting, Visteon was actually formerly owned by Ford but was spun off in the late 90's as a seperate corportation. I have noticed that they have been doing more business with GM but this appears to be the biggest project I am aware of.

Bose isn't crap.. They do have high end audio products that match and compete with anything Boston Acoustics can throw at it and in blind audio tests you would be hard pressed to be able to consistently tell which one is which playing the same uncompressed sound. Boston Acoustics and D&M Holdings are highly respected and would also get a tainted image if they were as large a company as Bose to those who like products that hold a higher perceived quality due to the thought that they are put together in a better fashion using better parts (made in America which they were).. However let me tell you a dirty secret of the speaker industry..Now that Japanese company D&M Holdings bought out B & A, China sweatshops are the ones putting together Boston Acoustic speakers as well in today's world just as Bose does. This however is not going to stop me from ordering these speakers in my new Camaro as I want a premium sound system. However if Bose was the company used I'd be equally as happy and also order them..
