I'm not sure how its a bad move on the General's part. Plain and simple fact is it just costs way to much to do from a production stand point. I'm sure someone like Tom would be willing to do it, but not for 2k.....

I keep reading these posts about how expensive it is for the Bumblebee paint job. I understand that if you wanted the same "paint job" as Bumblebee, then it would be very expensive. I get that. But why is it so hard to just offer the same "color" or very similar? Not the paint job, just the color.
I'm not in the automotive industry or automotive painting or anything like that so I'm certainly not the most informed. I just don't get why they can offer all kinds of different colors for this car (or any car out there) but an orangish/yellow is just out of the question. So I guess my real question is - If they can make a bright red, dark red, blue, yellow, silver, gray, black, etc. colored car, why can't they offer a color smiliar to this Sunrise/Sunflair? Again, not the same "paint job", just the color itself. They obviously have to add different tints together to get the colors they offer now. Is it really that hard to add a few other tints to make the yellow they have now a little more orange?

PBC-30 sunrise.
Hey guys I just stumbled onto so info on another thread here. This info was even confirmed by fbodfather. The paint is called sunrise yellow. Look under Shimrin Paint. Made by Valspar. Code is PBC-30. Plus there is another person that clamed they have paint chip of the paint and aggress to the color appearance. I have asked for a copy to be mailed to me so I can see for my self. The father has spoken and I accept defeat with humility. The paint is around $70.00qt. I will show the paint chart I found. Look top left.
September 21, 2006 Here is the information we have been waiting for! If you haven't already seen it, pickup the November 2006 issue of HOT ROD magazine. There is a great story (with pictures) of Bumblebee in the making at Saleen in Troy, Michigan. According to the story, there were two versions of Bumblebee built for filming. The first one was completed in 30 days and both done in less than 45 days. Fabrication was done at Saleen's 280,000 square foot facility in Troy, Michigan. Steve Minn, vehicle coordinator for the film, recommended Saleen because they had built the Cobras used in xXx. GM looked to their inventory and found the current GTO was the closest to the concept Camaro in size. With data and some sections and wheelbase drawings from GM, Saleen began their fabrication. The two Pontiac GTOs came from GM's R&D fleet and Joe Miesak (Saleen) went to work. The fiberglass bodies were cast using the same molds GM used to build the two concept cars. The interior looks much like the concept Camaro because the dashboard shell covers the original GTO instrumentation and the seats and interior handles came directly from the GTO as well. GM had a say in the paint work. Supplied by Valspar Automotive finishes, code PBC30 -- Sunrise Yellow, Bumblebees paint looks great! They altered the original stripes planned by Saleen to more closely resemble the Rally stripes from the 1969 Camaro. Last edited by 13F20; 09-06-2008 at 12:27 AM. Reason: new info |

I'd get the BumbleBee paint job, but when I get my Camaro, I want to keep it stock. I don't want to customize it. (except for GM accesories)

yes, it is Sunrise yellow, i have the paint chip at home, and no paint job costs 17-25K.
I had my hubby look up the cost of the paint, and i posted it in another thread somewhere I dont feel like looking for it, but if you care that much you will.

I can tell you that that particular car paint job was 17-25k. Saleens in-house custom paint for there S281's is 17K and that is a mustang that is priced any was from 50-90K, this car is 200k. Check out Saleen.com and look at there mid level priced S281SC, saleen in-house custom paint $17,000. There are some paint jobs that do cost that kind of money.

the only reason they "cost" that much is because they know there are rich idiots out there that will pay for it.
No actual paint costs that much, and there is no special technique to it that would make it cost that much. The only way i ever see a paint job costing that much is if it is some sick custom job with airbrushing and that kinda crap.

I know this is a dead thread, but theres something about this yellow that makes it too nice not to want on the Camaro. I just don't trust other body shop paint jobs to have a new camaro customized to this color (In terms of qualitiy). I think GM should offer per order only, theres no other way to keep everyone happy.
Even if everyone ordered this color I'd still want it. There's just something that pops about the color versus all the others. |

So since there are many custom paint shops out there, there is bound to be some one to get the similar effects of the bumblebee paint out there. There is also bound to be a thread or blog some where with the recipe for it.
So....I'm googling away.

Sorry to jack the thread back everyone...but Mr. Henry, if you're still minding this thread and decided on the price of your custom paint job, could you please PM me or let us all know...? I wasn't all that thrilled about the 'Transformers' edition, except for a few of the parts (like the center wheel caps, etc.) and even less so about the rally yellow and stock stripes. One of my neighbors has a new banana 'Vette, but even that didn't help the color...! (No offense to anyone who has/likes rally yellow, but that's what this thread is about)
I'd be more than happy with your THR fender badges and front grille divider than half of the stuff in the 'Transformers' kit...! ![]() Also looking for the Whipple twin-screw when they come in for the 2010 if you can get 'em ![]() Tom 'Jetfire' L.
