Black out GFX exhaust bezels

I really want this done and was wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how to remove the GM GFX exhaust bezels? I saw a couple of posts a while back but were inconclusive. Can it be done at home alone? Do I have to take off the bumper? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

no need to take the bumper off at all. Remove the 1 screw at the top , and then get under the bumper, (no need to jack up car) look behind the bezel and uncrew 3 (if I recall correctly), repeat on the other side.

Awesome, just what I wanted to hear, thanks!

How about painting these bezels? I'm sure powder coating would be best, but if I can save money and just paint I'll go that route. Thanks ahead for input.

Easy to paint yourself. Just lightly sand (400 or 600 grit) then spray with Auto Engine paint - high temperature. And ff_rCobra_65 is correct. 1 screw from the outside, 3 on the inside . No need to jack her up and remove anything. Now, the 3 on the inside are attached via clip into a plastic insert. be Very careful removing these as they are VERY flimsy! 2 of 3 on each side of mine were cracked, but the screws still held fine. Just don't over tighten them.

Good luck...

Hey guys,
I started the process of removing these things. I got the easy to reach bolts off: Top-outside, top-inside and bottom-inside (as you look at them). But, I cannot reach the last bolt that's bottom-outside. If I try really hard I can get 1 hand in the and touch it with 1 finger, but I cannot possibly reach it with an alan wrench in hand and loosen it. Any tips on removing this bolt that do not involve tearing it off or removing the bumper?

Vince

I haven't thought of that, I'll take another look with my ratchet and see if the extender will reach. I'll try to post a pic later today.

Top outside & top inside?? There are 4 - 1 accessible from the outside and 3 from the inside - bottom, left & right. All the same size bolts. Oh, you have the stock exhausts, correct? If so, I'm not sure as mine were easy to get to with my Zoomers Exhaust. Maybe you need to drop the exhaust cans...

Yea I still have the stock exhausts, I have no idea how to drop them down so I can reach. Yea there's one bolt on the outside-bottom of the bezel. I can BARELY reach it let alone hold a wrench in my hand and undo the bolt. I'm scared to remove the bolts again because some of the brackets on my driver's side bezel are getting damaged. Not from trying to undo them but from the elements I guess.

With all of the after market products out there from interior to engine accessories you would think that someone would have these in either powder coat or black chrome. Is anyone listening?

Getting the bezels off when you have the stock exhaust is the hard part. Unless you have a means to pop off the back bumper at home, which I don't have.

I powder coated mine and tack welded some stainless steel mesh to hide the tail pipes and then blacked out the bezels, side markers and tail lights.

Man, I think your car was the 1st one I saw on this site that made me want to do this. And that was back before my car came in.

@michael's maro, very good idea on doing this BEFORE they are put on. I didn't even think of that
