Opinions needed before my final decision on exhaust cutouts.

I have been reading just about every post on exhaust systems for the past 3 months. I have decided on the QTP adjustable exhaust cutouts that I am planning on buying next week. After searching for over a month, I finally found a shop that will install the kits for me. I like these because I can run them wide open or completely closed, seems like the best of both worlds.

I am looking for any comments/suggestions before I buy the kits next week. Here is the QTP website for those of you that are not familiar with the kits.

http://quicktimeperformance.com/OVAL/

Thanks,
Russ

I have QTP's on my Chevelle...three years and absolutely no issues. I love them.

Wow, no negative comments yet. That is shocking, I expected a bunch of responses about what a huge mistake I am making. This is great to hear, now I am even more excited about the mod.

Those of you that have these cutouts, do you usually run them open, closed, or somewhere in between?

Russ

Not to hijack your thread but, I would be interested to know if they are any louder than stock when closed. You know, like a leaky exhaust 'tick' or something.

I also looked high and low, decided on the QTP cutouts after reading so many posts I thought I would die . Ultimately it came down to the control, remarks by folks that have them now, price and the video clips I've reviewed. I should have them installed by next week. I'll be sure to post my first impression for you.

I run them closed in the subdivision (those car show start awefully early on Sundays!). Once I am on the main road, I open them up. Cruising around I leave them about 3/4 open to get a good sound without being too obnoxious. Obviously, if I see a cop I close them up, but have not gotten hassled for open exhaust even if one snuck up on me. (knock wood)

i have a question i was wondering if you would get the same sound if instead of the exaust cutouts did long tubes with high flow cats and no mufflers?

I just had them put on this past Saturday, they sounds GREAT!!! nice and loud, and stock when you need it....only thing about them is there is a lot of popping on the decel but it isnt to bad...I had them put on at E Shift Performance in central/south Jersey...great people if you are in that area...I actually got pulled over right down the street from them when I left, the Officer just got an L99 and was wondering what exhaust I had on it, freaked him out when I shut them and then opened them haha, I told him about this site so he will probably be making his way here shortly.

I forgot I owed you a first impression!! Well I had them installed. I got home and started playing. I was completely unprepared for how loud it is wide open. My first thought was 'What have I done!!". Now I can't keep the damn things closed. I programmed a couple presets that I'm comfortable cruising around town with. Yesterday I had a co-worker in the car, opened them wide open and let her loose. We were speechless. Absolutely awesome sound and feel. I wouldn't trade them for anything. My advice though would be to definitely see if you could find someone local that has them so you could maybe drive along and see for yourself firsthand before you install.

Cutouts do sound like a relatively cheap and easy way to improve exhaust flow, plus you have the control factor. I'm curious how you would properly tune for this. For example, do you tune for open cutouts and run a suboptimal tune during closed or partially open cutouts?

No negative comments here either. I just put mine in about 3 weeks ago and I am very pleased with how they turned out, and so is the Chevy dealer that put them in. I did all the wiring my self to try and make it easier on them, and I was curious anyways on how some of that stuff came apart. Not hard at all. Might seem like a lot of work, but totally worth it. Here is a video link to my cutouts. ENJOY and good luck.

Anyone see any sparks coming out of the exhaust with cut outs open? I live in forest fire country where spark arrestors are required. Around here people that start fires get linched.
