Black Out Lights. Bad Deal/Idea?

So Im thinking of blacking my car out, rims, tint, light panels, chevy emblem etc. Is this a bad deal for the light panels? Also Im wondering if this is illegal at night, and do they fit on HID headlights...

Heres the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-...Q5fAccessories

Thanks for reading my thread.

Add says they can be removed for street driving and may not be legal in some states. In MY opinion,I wouldnt do anything to hinder the brightness of headlights or tail lights. Try explaining that to the insurance company if you are in an accident.
Sometimes, changing things to make your car "your own" is'nt worth the trouble if something happends. Plus (my opinion again) black rims, lights, etc. looks crappy to me. Black wheels are plain ack.

Well I apprecitate your input, but thats your opinion, and I will just remove them if I decide to drive during the night, I'll post pics of what it looks like when its finished, I've seen a lot of crappy blacked out cars, but what I have in mind is going to look nice, I'm doing a 2" drop also.

If you review the GTS headlight covers, they claim NOT to use with HID lights. You may want to check on this. I have the whole blackout kit from GTS and they work great, even at night. Not sure about your HID's though.

We carry a material that is transparant vinyl, but it is 5 times as thick as regular vinyl. Once it is heated it will conform to the curve of the tail light lens and can be installed in around 5 to 10 minutes. It can be removed with no damage to the lens, but not reinstalled once it has been removed. I've showed the product to a couple of police departments in this area and all police officers asked said it would not be something they would give you a ticket for, but laws are different from state to state - so if you are concerned check with your local police department first. It's available as a complete kit or for individual lights. This month only use coupon code "jan10" for 20% off the price on the web site. After the discount a tail light only kit is under $32. All the product has a minimum life span of 5 years. Below are some pics:

Detailed Description

Headlight Armor High Performance Lighting Protection kits are designed to cover and protect your vehicles lights from the ravages of the road and adverse weather. They are made from durable impact resistant 20mil high performance clear or tinted material with a clear acrylic adhesive backing that you apply to your lights. We have a comprehensive step by step DIY photo section with lots of pictures here. This is the same type of material used by racers to protect their lights at speeds over 150mph! A necessity for those participating in track days or HPDE. The tough films help protect against everyday road hazards that can damage and destroy your vehicle's very expensive lights, such as gravel, winter road salt/sand, and road debris.

Is the Vinyl really black? Like dark. Whats the difference in the Vinyl and the Plastic pop on panels?

Ours are not a hard plastic cover that you tape or velcro to your lights. They are an evolution of the clear headlight savers that have been in use for years. They are made from an impact resistant material with an adhesive backing which you apply to your lights. A lot more information in our vendor thread here, including photos of all three tint levels on both standard and RS option taillights.

I had to mention you cause I'm going with some next paycheck, and well, if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for everyone else...hehehe

I just recently added the Black-out to My Tail Lights, Back-up Lights and All 4 Side Markers. There is no problem at all with visibility at night. The lights are only slightly dimmed with the film on. I do not forsee a problem as all of the lights are still lit up in the origonal color as they should be and are clearly visible even at night.

If there is a problem, the film is easy to remove.

Pk,

I don't know what the laws are in Texas, but I had tinted tails on my last car and got pulled over and given a ticket for them- both my insurance and points went up (it's considered a moving violation), and while they were ticketing me for that they tried ticketing me for any other offenses they could. Around here, cops are looking for mods like these to use as justification for pulling people over and it simply was just not worth it in my case for all the hell and increased cost for a basic visual mod.

Just my opinion, but it's worth it for you to figure out what your laws allow and make sure it's clearly legal, any ambiguity will get you pulled over and possibly leave you with increased points/insurance costs.

Thanks a lot, I'm going to do a bit more reasearch before I just jump into this. My insurance is high enough I'm 18 years old. Lol..

I was focusing on the headlights only. The other, very little difference (sidemarkers, backup, taillights). The front of the car takes a beating from road debris, salt, etc. I would want something 'heavy' protecting the headlights, not just providing a tint for the front. That was my focus on this topic.. Sorry to confuse the other items for tinting.
