Now, I'm not an old guy who's standing up for people who played "back in the day", but Unitas is the top QB. Besides being a great on-field general, Unitas and Ray Berry invented and perfected timing between the quarterback and receiver. If they played today, they'd carve up a defense just like they did back then. If you ever get a chance, watch some of the old film of them. The routes, timing and placement is as sharp as the best players of today, but done by guys wearing potato sacks for jerseys, and those dorky looking helmets.
Montana SUCKED in bad weather. Brady makes it look like a tropical day.

The moment Montana was gone to the Cheifs, the 49ers didn't skip a beat.

As far as the older QBs. All I can do is concede that I don't really know.

This coming from a jets fan

And yes, I do know a lot about football. Enough to know that the 70's steelers were known for their defense and not the super awesome play of their qb

What do you Guys have to say about when cassell played in NE and pretty much didn't skip a beat. He struggled a little, but you have to expect that. He did have more 400yd games that season then Brady ever has in one season...pls they still won 11 games.

I have an idea, post a link to just one list that has Bradshaw in the top 5. Without it being a biased source. It'll probably be hard to find one in the top ten even. I guess everyone that's not wearing YELLOW and black glasses knows nothing about football. Haha

Sorry, you got that completely wrong. If anything, Unitas would be even better.

Think of it this way - Unitas was a 40,000 yard passer in an era when football strategy consisted of running, running, then passing on third down. The West Coast offensive strategy was still 15 years away. Also, he only played 12 game seasons for most of his career. Give him 16 game seasons and he would have been a 60,000 yard passer.

Also consider that he played in the days when all the passer protection rules weren't in effect. He took his share of hits and kept going. In today's "protect the passer" game, he would have been even more productive.

If anything, people like Brady and Manning wouldn't have been nearly as good if they had to play in his era.

Bradshaw was a good quarterback who played on a great team. He's not one of the top 10 greatest quarterbacks.

Totaly different game. NO way to tell. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. What happens when a defense keys on the run? A good QB has a great game. He caght everyone off gaurd maybe. I'd have to have watched him though.

I just think that when it's a prodominantly running game, the passing will benefit greatly. The fact that it was mostly running back then probably HELPED him.
