I did not know about the date print, now I know why I have to zigzag thru tire treads sometimes. Thanks for the post, I will be checking all of mine from now on. Good info for everyone!

Lets not forget the bikers, check your sleds(Motorcycles) I know I've done that for years, you can never trust the shelfs and warehouses. Especially now days everyone is working hard as hell to make a buck.

I have an advantage as I have worked in the industry and learned this. I check every tire I buy. Especially the ones for my bikes!

I learned about this a year and a half ago when I started shopping for a new set of tires. But most people have no idea. It's something everyone should be educated on.

I guess one of the nice things about driving the Camaro is that the tires are such a large size most of the tire stores don't keep any in stock and have to order them for you. That should at least reduce the chance of getting an old tire.

The problem I see is that there is no real concensus on how old is too old.

If no legislation goes thru on the 6 year limit they will probably change the date coding system so that nobody can figure it out.

Yep, something I learned when dealing with my RV. RV's tend to sit for long periods of time with very little miles. The tires on my Trailer are a little over five years old and will be changing them before camping season starts. The tires still look brand new! My buddy lost two tires last season from blowouts and those tires were around seven years old.

Remember a few years ago,Firestone was having serious issues with their tires.Dry-rotted,blowing out on highways,I remember most of them being on the Ford Explorers.

Yep, Explorers, Geo Trackers, Isuzu's mini Suvs, and other small Suvs

But that problem was in manufacturing, not something like this.

I've been doing this for quite a few years on my Harley. Very critical when only riding on 2 wheels.
Tires on the Camaro won't last long enough to get old. But I always check when I buy tires. If they aren't in the current year, I have them order new ones.
The date stamp is required by law in the DOT #. The manufacturers won't be doing away with it.

My friend is riding on some really bad tires right now.

Can't get her to buy new ones.

I'll email her this link.

Thanks, great find.
