so, how much would all of you sell your current car for? As much as you thought you could get for it right? Why is it wrong for dealers to do that too?

^Because we only have one. They have many....

OOooh....and because GM says, "MSRP." So....if GM says MSRP and then a dealer says MSRP plus our "increased market value," I say screw'em. I mean, WE can't go order from GM. We are forced to order from a dealer who wants to get the most they can. Better yet...let's try an example..

1. Price of a barrel of oil. If it's okay to try to make the most money out of it, why not just price it at $200? Heck...why not $300??

We don't have the control over the cost of a barrel of oil just like we don't have control over actually GETTING the vehicle at MSRP. If we all could order from GM at MSRP, I'm sure there would be a lot of happy customers. If we could actually have some competition in purchasing gasoline, some prices just might come down. This gasoline deal is freakin BS by the way...

No...I don't think dealers should be able to charge over MSRP. I think that if there is that high of a demand on a vehicles that they can't keep any on their lots (they keep selling like hotcakes so dealers think they can add a 20K market adjusted value), then:

1. GM didn't study up on their pricing enough and screwed up by pricing too low.
2. They aren't making enough vehicles to go around and need to ramp up production.

Price above MSRP shouldn't be an option for dealers. If you want to sell our cars, you will sell them at no more than MSRP. If there is a higher demand than that, we will fix our pricing or put out more vehicles. Simple as that.

I've never paid anywhere near sticker for any vehicle I've ever owned, and never will. I've had my experiences buying and have learned quite alot over the last 14 years of ownership. The dealers want you to think they're not making anything on the car, but no doubt, they are. When I get ready to purchase the Camaro and he offers some inflated price, I'll laugh and tell him to take $10K off and call me when it's ready! If not, I'll just find someone who will.

A heads up to everyone:

I sent out a few emails to local dealers about the Base V8 Camaro and their plans on pricing - If they were going to add to the MSRP and got a very humorous in that he was so full of crap.

Hello _____

Thank you for your purchase request on a SS Camaro.

We are not taking deposits on the Camaro yet, and we are waiting to get pricing on the vehicle. We will be asking the market value and will accept a deposit when we get allication to build the car.

To which I responded:

Market value meaning that you might put a market adjustment price onto MSRP?

To which he said:

We'll have to wait and see.

To which I said:

Thanks for the response. I think you answered the question, which was really more about the ethics at Colonial.

To which he said...and this was so funny:

Your right, we are disclosing the fact that there is going to be a premium on the Camaro, were not going to wait until last minute to tell you, no surprises, I think your going to find that all dealers are going to sell for market value, and if they say there not, it's probably because they're not getting one.

So there are dealers that aren't going to get Camaro's???

Unreal the crap that GM dealers will say. No freaking wonder I went to foreign models for so long.

Yeah, I've shot a couple of dealers e-mails asking about MSRP and can't get a straight answer, which leads me to believe they plan on gouging.

Well I have now heard from 2 of the 3 dealers in the Boise/Mountain Home area. I posted Edmarks comments in the MSRP or lower thread and here is the response I got from Peterson Chevrolet in Boise.

"We are not sure what we are going to do .. it is just to early ... I suspect that we will mark this car up about 10% over MSRP in the begining as it will be so hard to come by. I hear there are some dealers looking at $10,000 and up over MSRP in the begining .. Yikes .. We expect to have the ability to order our first Camaro in Dec of this year .. we already have a waiting list of about 15 people ... I hope this gives you a rough idea of our thoughts ....
Thanks"

My guess though is that after they realize that another dealer just 14 miles away is charging MSRP or below that they will come down on their prices.

To anyone in Southwest Missouri: Mayse Automotive in Aurora said there will be a "premium" on the Camaro, at least at first.

At least, to their credit, they were honest enough to give me a straight answer unlike Pinegar Chevrolet in Republic (who to date have given me no reply whatsoever - and I bought a car from them in the past) or "Big Lot" Reliable Chevrolet in Springfield.

Hey Joe, is your dealership easy to get to from I-35, b/c it looks like I'll have to make a roadtrip next year.

We are located right off of it! You cant miss us. I also will hopefully have something for my fellow Camaro enthusiast when they come and pick up their new Camaro, just have to wait on the official numbers we are getting, and a little help from my management.

I just sent an email to a sales woman at Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg ID about their pricing policy on this. Hard to tell what the response will be but they have excellent prices on Dodge and GM trucks. Bought my truck at Edmark in Nampa because I forgot about Dave Smith but got stupid and bought the GTO in Elko, NV. I met a fellow in Elko who had a Dave Smith Motors plate surround on it so people drive a long ways to get deals. I also heard about them when I was stationed north of Seattle. (Whidbey) I'll post when I get a response.

I contacted a few dealers around the Wichita Falls, TX area. Have heard back from one and this was the response I got.

The SS coupe and convertible, I am sure will be priced over MSRP at least initially. The other models probably at MSRP.

Response from Beaty Chevrolet in Knoxville, TN:

Hi Daniel,

My name is Mike Lay; I am one of the Internet sales associates here at Beaty Chevrolet. I have spoken with the managers about the supplier price on the Camaro, and they are telling me that we will probably have an extra sticker price on them for at least the first year. I will not be able to do a supplier price on them for at least that long. I would definitely like to earn your business, but this one is just out of my hands. I do appreciate you considering Beaty Chevrolet. Thank you!

Sad to see all the mark up. I could only wish for a ton of allocation from day one - and we'll drop ship all over the country! Then maybe they'd rethink the extra mark up!

Caveat Emptor!!!!!

Hopefully there are enough people in this market who will turn their noses on these dealers and let them wallow in their inventory. What is sad is that GM will really need to sell vehicles to keep in business and these folks, are in it for their own short term gain.

I will make damn sure I avoid any dealers who take this kind of tact when this car comse on the market.

I understand their right to sell at whatever price they can get for the car. But take a look at the Dodge Boys and the 750 SRT/8's still left on the dealer lots as reported in many news sources recently.
