Unhappy

A quote from this mornings MSN Muscle Car Review..............

"Chevy’s just-released Camaro delivers the base LS and LT V6 and performance-happy SS V8 models, but its highly anticipated Z28 flagship now appears stillborn. Developed and ready for production, the exciting Z28 is not likely to appear while General Motors is under such scrutiny that President Barack Obama is dictating who’ll run the company."

Is the Z28 really alive and not stillborn and waiting to be born????????????? I have not heard anything anywhere about this.....is there news from our friends on the inside????????

This could make my decision to wait on the purchase of the 5th Gen justified instead of me being lazy.

The Z28 is still possible, but don't count on it showing up for a while

Great point and one that we all should take heart in. Just like in class, you bump the lowest and the highest and take the meat from the middle. Works for me. Some of these writers are very biased, so I added a grain of salt.
This is one awesome car and they know it.

where's the consumer reports...?

i hate to say it, but the one that will matter most to the lay person will be freakin' consumer reports.... we'll see what true foreign biast reporters have to say about it.

can't stand consumer reports, it might as well be a magazine for the frugal and uninspired.

new review from Edmunds. Maybe we need a specialty section in addition to the SS and V6?

I was really disappointed in reading the handling #'s from the June issue of R&T. I thought the SS performed well at the Nurburgring track, better than a Porsche Boxter S and had much improved in the handling department over its previous model years--preliminary lateral acceleration #'s were in the .92 to .93 g range i believe. Now we get 0.87 g and only a 66.8 mph slalom speed with moderate understeer and "lots of body roll and pitch keeping the Camaro from being really fast" and only "adequate" perfomance on the skidpad and "slow ratio" steering. Myself and alot of Camaro enthusiasts and of course R&T expected better from the SS. At least we beat the Challenger though! Overall I'm pretty pleased with the performance #'s, but handling could be much improved. Chevy said they have no plans to offer a track package like the Mustang GT who dominated the handling tests of the 3.

so upon further research, there are definitely many varying performance #'s for the Camaro from the different publications. Automobile magazine tested the skidpad at 0.93g and 0.94g, but o-60 at 4.8 for the manual and 4.9 for the automatic, which most other publications are quicker for the automatic. Edmunds has the SS at 5.0 sec, and the 1/4 at 13.3/13.4? Slalom times are varied by several mph. Motortrend had a 0.9 on the skidpad.
So anywhere from 4.6-5.0 on 0-60 time, 12.9-13.4 on the 1/4, 66.8 to 69 and change in the slalom, and 0.87 to 0.93 g on the skidpad seems to be the range.

Found this: Camaro SS: Hit the throttle and hang on!

One quote in the review which may many here would debate:

Quote:
Of these three cars (Mustang, Challenger, Mustang) the Mustang is by far the best driving and handling car, even if it isn't the fastest.
Isn't that the opposite of what all of the other reviews out there are saying?

He also said the LS3 had 422 HP. Horsepower addicts wont like that either.

I think several reviews have commented that the 2010 Mustang is, in their view, more nimble and with more responsive steering than the new Camaro. Please tell me the Camaro doesn't have the same steering gear as the GTO, I have one and if feels as slow as a Buick rack.

the Camaro will have a steering gear similiar to our Pedders high speed rack. It is a good gear! the Mustand solutions to handling are to add a sway bar that is ridiculously over powering. They do the same thing on their coils. A Rousch set up approaches handling in this exact way. Pedders does not. We have just completed the last 2 Mustang generation Xa coil over fitments, and they work really well and keep the tires on the ground.

July 2009 C&D Mustang > Camaro SS > Challenger SRT8

Just got the July 2009 print version of Car & Driver.

Update: found review online

Mustang 1st -- 209 pts -- lighter and tighter in every way, good visibility, engine sound

Camaro SS 2nd -- 193 pts -- like acceleration and grip, inventive interior; dislike angry appearance, tiny, trunk, hard seats, and "nose-deep-in-a-hole feeling" (high beltline)

Challenger R/T 3rd -- 190 pts -- too heavy, awful tires

Just remember: the car you like the best is the best car for you, what reviewers think should just provide guidelines for you own test drive...

When I was a little guy in the mid to late 60s, there was the Mustang vs Camaro arguments and in 20 years, they will still be discussing it. Pedders has just completed our beta test fitting on the last 2 Mustang generations, so we know how the vehicles handle compared to the Zeta platform vehicles. Ford is still very old school with their Mustang suspension. They hide or try to hide their flaws by putting on gorilla sway bars and such. The Camaro suspension is seriously better than Mustang, but does have more body role than Mustang, which is one of those things that I do not like.

So in the eye of the beholder, to me, the Mustang looks good in and out, but the Camaro look awesome which gets me back to my first sentence: in the late 60s, I liked the Camaro look over the Mustang, and we even had a Mustang. So traditions continue.......

I'm LOLing at how the Mustang is barely cheaper than the Camaro, and based on C&D's test is 6 MPH and 0.6 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile. That is a butt-stomping in musclecar terms. These car mags always are on the Mustang's jock no matter what the test results... like the "gotta have it" factor when C&D tested the Mustang against the GTO despite the Mustang losing almost every performance test.
