Clutch replacement costs? - Aisin Warner AY6 MT

I'm just doing a little pre-expense planning for the LT/RS Camaro and was wondering if anyone has a ballpark cost for replacing the clutch for the Aisin Warner AY6 manual transmission?

I've never kept any of my other MT-equipped cars long enough to wear out the clutch so I have no idea what it would cost to replace it. I plan on keeping this Camaro long enough to pass it along to either my son or daughter in about 10-12 years, depending on who I think will be least likely to destroy the car. Which also means that one or both will likely destroy the clutch while learning to drive a MT.

Any ideas on costs?

Thanks.

DIY or shop?
Dealer can cost up to $1000 or more.

If you go to ebay and just search on clutch kits it will give you a parts idea. They last a long time so I would not even worry about it. The one in my RX7 is 24 years old (it's starting to go out lol).

edit add: Btw don't use your Camaro to teach them stick. Use a rental POS subcompact.

Yes, good to know, and I'm about to find out.....ugh
ONLY 22.7k miles on my 2010 - just blew out the clutch on a charity drive at Watkins Glen over the weekend! Only going about 60mph, went to downshift, and nuttin...clutch went to the floor and stayed there..

Archer, that doesn't sound to me like you ran out of clutch material. That sounds like something else broke, and can be repaired without replacing the actual clutch.

Typically clutches fail by slipping, not by dead pedal... at least as far as I'm aware.. Might be something funky on the Camaro clutch though.

Not familiar with the set up, sounds as if either the clutch master or slave cylinder is shot.

If your brake pedal is still firm, I'm betting your hydraulics are fine and if the clutch wasn't having any issues before, it's still good too.

Sounds like your clutch master cylinder may have become disconnected down at the pedal (that's where they put'em).

Crawl down into the driver's foot well headfirst with a flashlight and look for one of these and where it (should be) connected to the pedal-

A metal rod pops into the round opening on the right end of this master cylinder. If's its not connected you can have the "dead pedal" you're describing.

If it needs replacing get a new one from IDEAL GARAGE (in the sponsors list)- your transmission will thank you!

Well, thanks everyone for your suggestions - bummer none worked - I had the local Chevy dealership open it up, only to find a shattered clutch and pieces of it everywhere within.. garbage OEM crap! Had it towed to a local tranny shop to have an aftermarket one put in, as GM said no way to warranty replacement (even at 22k miles, with a $2500 extended warranty purchased - I got rippppppedddd off by GM!) ..as their excuse is ' a clutch is a normal wear item'.. bs.. no clutch should blow apart at 22k miles.. ah well, live and learn..
