Emblem install question

I found a couple threads on how to install some V flag emblems. The people that have installed them said they cut the posts off and filled the back with liquid metal. I cut my posts off and couldn't find any liquid metal or any of the specific products people on here have used. So I picked up some JB Weld as it sounded like it would work when reading the package. I've never done something like this and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the JB Weld will work to fill the back in. Then I'll use the double sided molding tape and put it on the car.

So, do you think JB Weld will work? I'm trying to make the back of the emblem flat so more surface area on the emblem will have the tape and provide a better adhesion to the car. As it is right now, the emblem is indented about an eighth of an inch or so.

I cut the posts off, ground them flush and didn't use any back fill. Just used 3M tapes along all the edges.

I see what you are doing. I used 3-M double sided tape but I put 2 layers of it when I put my V flag emblems on and it worked great.

This is the liquid metal filler some have use - http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-25909.../dp/B000ALDYJI

My installer used body filler to create a level surface then applied 3M tape - it has held perfectly since June and through winter driving so far.

Go on eBay and search 3m emblem tape. I bought 2 rolls for like $6 from China.

mine isn't actually 3m..it's something else, but i bought it at pep boys and it said it was for side molding and emblems. i can only figure it's the same stuff. i looked for 3m, but they didn't have any.

I used straight 92% rubbing alcohol. Just make sure the surface isn't too cold when applying.

just use some rubbing alcohol for sure, that way you get all the the wax off the area.....that way the tape will adhere REALLY GOOD, which is what you want.

Cool, thanks guys!! I put the JB Weld on last night...letting it dry now. I'll probably install the emblems tomorrow. It's supposed to be in the mid 70s tomorrow. I'll take pics when I'm done.

i was gonna do it without filling in the back, but the area was too big to not have it filled in...only a small portion would be covered with the 3m tape. here are a couple pics of the back of the emblems with the JB Weld filled in the back. the bottom of the V's are close enough together that i can just put a piece of tape and not have to fill the back in.

I thought about doing that, but since I'm putting the flags on and not the old school Camaro, I'm leaving mine on cause I like it saying Camaro on there.
